What is your FAVORITE piece composed specifically for wind band? (i.e. no strings)
Holst's Suite No. 1 & 2?
Lincolnshire Posy by Grainger?
Perhaps Paul Hindemith's Symphony in Bb?
Please respond with your favorite Wind Band piece!!!
Thanks!!!

Praise Jerusalem! It's my absolute favorite! It's what we went to festival with last year. It = most amazing song in the world. It's an Alfred Reed piece.

We played Lincolnshire Posy and I liked it a lot, even though my part was miniscule.

We played all six of Lincolnshire last year, it was ok, I liked it more than others did. Right now we are playing my favorite festival yet. Timothy Mahr's Into the Air!, James Barnes A light in the Wilderness, and our warm up march is the Imperial March. w00t.

I really like Mars, from "The Planets", but if you want to hear a really cool part in a song, listen to "Boys of the Old Brigade"

Mars is absolutely awesome but my favorite piece is a piece called Raise the Roof by Michael Daugherty. That tuba part is awesome.

I'd have to say my favorite concert piece would have to be The Second Storm composed by Robert W. Smith. Its starts off smooth and peaceful. then, it builds into a raging storm for about twenty measures. it then sounds like ur in the eye of the storm. After that it goes back into the intense storm section. we play the eye section again much louder, with the low brass and trumpets joining. The trombones let out a few bursts of double forte, the woodwind section trills, the whole band plays a loud note at the end, and then its all over

koyori kana umm our show at ridgeland this year is fantasia in G vesuvius and march grandioso (i cant remember the composers ^_^; How could you NOT know the composer to Vesuvius? It's Frank Ticheli, like, god composer of concert bands in a sense. So now you know. Check out his site. He has free mp3 downloads and downloads of a few of his scores. And Vesuvius is an awesome wind ensemble piece. You can never go wrong with Ticheli (unless you try to get beginners to play Postcard rofl ) But if you want a really awesome wind piece, try Shostakovitch's Symphony No. 5 Finale Transcription. Clarinets are in their highest range and it's challenging for everyone. It is one of my favorites. Add to that On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss because of it's sheer beauty (go Holsinger!) 3nodding

this is annoying me. last year (8th grade) we did this song that i really liked but i can't remember the name of...think it started with a T. anyways, we also played Simple Gifts (i liked the 2nd movement) and Fiero. and i like the song Ghost Train.
and this isn't really on topic, but is it weird that in the 8th grade band last year we had about 20, maybe more, trumpets?

I love all of the Wind Ensemble literature by Satoshi Yagisawa, especially Maccu Piccu. That song is so much fun to play for all instruments...
