Hey everyone!
Sorry if a thread like this has been made, but what are your thoughts on the cash shop?
I'm beginning to really dislike the idea. The evolving items seemed great, but now I feel like there's pressure to "buy" items before the next generation hits. It's like pokemon, only I'm not sure what the final product will be. What if I don't like what it becomes?
Also, the items flying on and off the shelf.... it boggles my mind. Simply because they are pixels and they are an infinite supply.
I feel a little worried because I hate to miss out on items that will later take loads of questing for (and the cash shop items sell for quite a bit of gold), yet, I feel silly spending more than a few bucks on Gaia because that is using real money for fictional items. I don't mind the MCs, it's once a month and the money supports the site. But cash shop...
Thoughts? Sentiments?

is it weird to love doing something but hating yourself for doing it at the same time? Well, I guess that's why we have reasoning...
I don't mind the cash shop...it has alot of cute things in there...and I did go and get one of the $25 gift cards...#1 to support the site....and #2 yeah, I wanted a Kaya. I don't mind spending the money....but then again I hate myself for buying fictitional stuff.
But, at least I am supporting something that I love. And apparently there are other sites that are promoting the same things.

I like the Cash Shop, but what I don't like is how quickly things go away and also, what's available for you to see in the shop depends on how much Gaia Cash you have. Those two things annoy me about the shop.
*Of course, I wouldn't be complaining if I actually had Gaia Cash, so don't mind the lamentations of a poor user. xd

I'd buy one, but I'm currently broke. Plus, when my mom and I went to Target (believe the cards are there as well as Rite Aid), I wasn't feeling well, and completely forgot. xp

I don't know. I've been able to get the cash shop items I wanted for fairly cheap in the marketplace. However, I noticed when items were announced as being withdrawn from the cash shop, the prices went WAY WAY WAY up, and not just on the items being withdrawn!
In the end, I'll probably get a Gaia Cash-Card. But I don't know how I want to spend it. I feel like I want to be a lot more selective if it's real money.

I feel like it's kind of bringing in an extra level of socioeconomic distinction among Gaia members based on their real life socioeconomic status. I think most of us come here to have fun and be in sort of a different world, not to be reminded that we have less money than others.
That said, I don't plan to buy any shop items with my US dollars...I might save up gaia gold if I really want something (and as more people buy it, it'll gt cheaper on the marketplace). In a few months, I'll have a hard enough time making rent as is. If I were going to spend cash, I'd spend it on something that was tangible and could make me happy for a good duration of time...like a new fancy pen. xd

I got 500 cash last month I still have 250 left. I am just buying a few things that I like because I want to. I like supporting the site. I was disappointed that I still had adds, though. I will just buy MCs from now on. At least I get something useful as a bonus that way.

Yeah, right now I feel guilty/weird spending money on fictional items. I think with the items rotating so fast and the evolving thing there is more of a rush. With MCs you have a whole month.
But yeah, this is changing gaia, isn't it?

arkk...I hate spending my money...on this place...but I can't help it...I think I"m becoming an addict, especially in a place where there is bad monitoring on kids and adults a like with foul language....There's some stuff that are real nice on gaia cash shop...it's just another way to promote losing money, that way you can waste more money.... rolleyes Honestly I gave up smoking so I can spend money here instead of my pack a day. xp xd stressed sweatdrop

Oh man I bought one of those evolving items Dandidodad spore...hopefully that wasn't all...I think I liked it as a necklace wasted 3.99 (but I think they changed it to 2.99 (which is still a little pricey)--not sure since apparently they're order history is either damage or it gets automatically erase...) and a little pricey than the mc (which is only 2.50) and it turned out to be like that I must say I'm a little disappointed about the item, i hope that is not the final evolution on that item.

I definitely don't mind promoting the site. That was the beauty of MCs, 2.50 got you a neat item AND helped support the site. I think my frustration with Cash Shop is also augmenting due to the number of SERVER CRASHES in games. stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed stressed
I WANT TO PLAY PUZZLES AND NOT GET BOOTED EVERY 45 SECONDS!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...........
I think that's my biggest issue. I feel like with the cash shop and these three a month MCs that the site has to be bringing in some real revenue. And as Tillisnut pointed out, with Cash shop you still have ads. (So you're spending money and they're still making it on advertisements).
It seems like there should be money to invest in better servers. I know Gaia is huge and has a million users and a thousand new features and Games. My frustration is that my games are always crashing. I can't believe it--I've actually gone back to Pogo... -lowers head in shame- And if I dust off my SNES, there will be no return to my papers. At least with Gaia I can write my paper on one screen and Gaia it up in another. SNES time is a sacred time, from which Manda/Antonia will be eternally distracted. Especially if I ever locate my secret of Mana cartridge-- and my one saved game has not been erased.
