I'd like to believe that I can see the good in people or at least up until recently. It seems all I see anymore is how selfish, rude, and greedy people are. I'm becoming cynical and jaded and I don't like it. The whole things making me vastly unhappy as well as making me quite unpleasant as well. Does anyone have advice on dealing with this?

Well, do you see your family and friends in a similar light? While the mentioned traits are unfortunately prevalent in the human race, there are those who are the opposite. Just learn to deal with those who do possess those traits.

I know how you feel. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you are a teen, know that it will get better as you age. Being a teenager is difficult. The best thing you can do is remain optimistic and smile (when you want to, of course). There are always going to be people who are bad, so try to find friends who are happy and mentally healthy. It will in turn make you happy and not feel bad about the world. This seems like pretty lame advice, but I guess all you can do is ignore the pessimistic people. After all, they don't live as long as the optimists.

Actually I do see a lot of the traits in my friends and most definitely in my family:
With my friends I try to be forgiving for it, mainly because thats the way I am. I don't like holding things against people and I know if I came off rude or greedy I'd want my friends to forgive me for acting in such a manner. So I bite my tongue. I think all the forgiving and overlooking I do with my friends is leaving me with some major stress.
With my family I also overlook the hateful things they say and their rude actions. I overlook that not because their my family but only because if I spoke up about they wouldn't listen. I've tried and they won't have it.
I think my problem is more in the way of dealing with the stress "overlooking" these traits leaves me with. I believe it's the stress that's making me an unpleasant person. So I need ways to cope with the stress.

Actually most pessimists live just as long as the optimists given that we're more prepared to be let down by life and thus don't get as stressed out by bad situations, personal disasters and catastrophes and what not.

We live in a polarity, with a slight shift to the wicked imo. Maybe on other planets it`s the other way around who knows. Why it is that way is subject to belief. According to my belief it is because everyone who learned the lesson of life can move on while the ones who have not learned yet or come from a lesser sphere are being reborn/born into this place and therefore have to learn. Basically all the ones who understood are gone. That is also the reason why history repeates hiself. It can be changed of course. If the entire humanity would think different, their collective mind could change the situation. mMybe indeed it will happen someday. Just my thoughts.
Until then you`ll have to deal with that polarity. And luckily there are not only humans, there are animals and energy itself spreads through all. So my suggestion is:
Turn out your lights and turn on some candles and calm music( optional) Sit down on a warm cushion or couch and close your eyes If you believe in god say a prayer otherwise think positive breathe in, hold the breath and breath out after a while, when you are calmer feel your body feel the blood running through your body, the electrical impulses and imagine a white/blue energy floats through you. Imagine that on top of your head is a hole which links you to the universe Imagine how white/irising/warm energy flows through that hole inside you. At the same time imagine how energy of yours leaves though the toes When you feel this focus on the sadness that happened to you, on every negtive experience and collect all that crap in your stomach as a brown looking ball. Then imagine how the while light pulls it outside of your body and gives it to earth, which can recycle it to be neutral Repeat this until you feel you`re vibrating of pure energy Then get up, spread your arms and imagine that you send all that bundled energy to earth for healing. Let it flow from you Then slowly come back to reality Open the window, blow out the candles and call a friend or person you like.
You should feel better.
Of course that`s just my experience and my suggestion.

Become like me, a pessimistic optimist, you expect the worst, so when the worst doesn't happen your happily surprised by it. ^^
