I should very much like to not make a fool of myself when I am abel to get more involved... I live in AEthelmearc, the Shire of Riversedge (Conneutville P.A.).

Soooo, are you looking to find out what certain SCA specific phrases mean, or something?

In general, don't worry about making a fool of yourself in terms of lack of knowledge of such things. If you have a question at an event or some other gathering, ask. Most SCA folks loooove to teach and inform.

Oh I figured as much, I went to Birka in Manchester NH, my first event, last winter, (IT WAS AWESOME!) and I was in the resturaunt/tavern with my teacher and all of her friends, it was a blast. I just like to hear more about such things is all, I really enjoyed reading the Dirty Sayings thread...

I could teach you some of the basics of speaking Westie, if you want.

Example: Eric - the list field
Radnor - a 90-minute court
BC - "battle cruiser"; Duke Flieg's sunshade

Hmm... apparently everyone but me uses the phrase "bum f***d egypt" to mean the middle of nowhere. But, as I live in a town with more apple trees than people, (and there aren't that many apple trees) it's possible I just never heard the phrase.

I don't think this has been covered, a "mundane" is a non-SCAdian. Apparently in other Baronies it's considered offensive, which I wish I'd known before I used it casually in this forum.

By the way, Birka=awesome.

Once I called a hot air balloon a dragon...
But that was the time that one buzzed the merchant area at Pennsic. This provided the exceptionally memorable image of mistress Megan running down the street screaming "Leonardo! Take me with you!"

Also, I've heard the terms 'pokeys' and 'pokey-sticks' used to refer to daggers and light-weight swords.
