I love the way Laurell writes. I wonder if a bunch of the thoughts and events that Anita has had and gone through are really just her own personality and things that have happened to her. I can see some of the things being true such as the reason for Anita's claustrophobia or that she doesn't get along with her step-mother.

I think that the Anita Blake series has kinda gotten into a rut the past couple of books, though.

I used to ADORE this series.. I'd rush through everything I had to do, just to sit down and read one of those books. I was totally in thrall, Hamilton could have asked me to steal all the milk and cookies from the entire state of Missouri and I'd have done it, for just one of her books. lol heart heart

And then.. gosh Anita just started sleeping with EVERYONE. Even the midgets covered in green jell-o... (ok maybe there were no midgets.. or jell-o, but with how ridiculous the series is getting, there just may be some day!) But it was like orgy grand central station in her pants, and I was just so distraught.. not Anita!!!!!

The last 3 books disappointed me so badly that I have yet to even read the latest one, much less buy it. The only character that remained consistent is Edward, whom I love dearly, b/c he's just freaking cool like that.

So I have contented myself with just re-reading all of them up to Cerulean Sins, b/c after that things just go downhill. lol

I have found 2 new vampire series who are a lot of fun to read. Not as detailed as Hamilton's but they're still good. If you haven't read the Sookie Stackhouse, or the Betsy the Vampire Queen books, you're missing out!

For sure, Anita basically becomes a sex puppet.
I do love her as a character up until that point, shes wonderful. The best part is her obsession with penguins. It makes me laugh all the time.
Jean-Claude is just down right awesome though. No one can deny it either.

Charlaine Harris's books (The Sookie Stackhouse novels) are really good too.
Stuff is always going on and not just boring dumb goings-ons either.
The TV series is pretty awesome as well. I really want the next book to come out (if there will be one).

I kinda agree about the sleeping around I don't really care for it
but even in those books the story is progressing even if it is just a
teensy bit especially in the one called Micah not very much happened
I think she is stalling but I think the story is definitely picking up in
the Harlequin but if you look just before that one she had a lot of sleeping
around in the Dance Macabre she had just hit a rut like you said and has gotten past it!! Hooray!! heart Also way glad Richards gone he is a total @##$^*&!! Sorry about that but he should have been gone a long time ago and then he hit Anita! At the same time as frustrated as I am she probably did what a lot of real women do when their other hits them they take him back>_<*sigh. evil

This series is my favorite despite all the sleeping around and random sex partners that Anita seems to have. It is all in progression towards her becoming able to feed rom a distance, so I have a feeling all the sex scenes will slowly die down. Until then they are a part of the developing story plot. The Audeur has brought many events along that were interesting. Take Sampson for instance. Who knew sirens would show up? Or the British vamps all coming over to Jean-Claude's territory? Frankly I love Requiem and London, however sex-slaveish they are. Their purpose in the book is very interesting, just like Nathaniel. He's kind of pointless along with Damien, but they add that extra kick that she seems to need in her stories.

As for Richard I couldn't agree more that he needs to go. I'm pretty sure Jean-Claude and Anita could survive his death. Sylvie could take over if Anita ever got over her squemishness. Jean-Claude should have just had cats to call instead of wolves. All problems solved.

I agree with the book Micah being a stall. Not much seemed to happen in the newest one, Blood Noir, either besides the whole thing with Jason and Mommy Dearest... and Richard but he's annoying. Maybe he'll be better off now that he doesn't have Anita's boiling pit of rage.

Edward should certainly make more appearances though. Whenever he is around things tend to go back to pure killing and blood-bathing. Though I will admit I was a little depressed about the whole Donna and Peter thing. I was secretly hoping that she would end up being some super spy at the end of Obsidian Butterfly, but I guess not.

Anyway, I can't really think of any books to recomend that relate to this series so I'll end my post here...

I love the series and the way Anita was so tough as nails and hardcore at the start of the series, but I don't like the way she changes and has so many sex partners. All the sex scenes just get tiring after a while. My favorite have to be Jean Claude and Jason.. Also, Edward.
