his is Sapphire Nights, a story that I originally began
as a project for my creative writing class, (we had to write a 35 page story in 2 months and a half) but after I turned it in I liked it so much I did a more detailed revise, and here it is, the first chapter and intro of Sapphire Nights!
Introduction:
"Jasper!" The voice of a young girl rang through
the empty church halls.
Her voice filled with anguish and fear. The church had been long abandon, a perfect hide out for the dark warriors. The roof laden with holes and the walls crumbling with mold and infestation from insects. A tall boy around six foot stood in the middle of the pews looking around frantically. "Where are you?!" He yelled out, his voice desperate for an answer. But none came. Moonlight shone down on his jet black hair from a hole in the roof, the remnants of that nights rain clinging to the air. The boy glanced around the church once more, he was all alone. The only person he truly loved snatched away from him. Rage boiled up inside of him, his green eyes seem to grow darker. He reached into his pocket and revealed a sliver dagger. It's hilt decorated with sapphires. "This time you die!" He bellowed as he ran out into the church hallway, where he would no doubt ally begin the fight of his life...with more than his life at stake..
Chapter 1: From nightmare to reality
A loud ringing sound echoed through the small two bedroom apartment.
Jasper Black reached out blindly, whacking at his nightstand hoping to hit the snooze button to end the obnoxious screeching omitting from his alarm clock. Finally successful, he retreated his hand back under his pillow in hopes of returning to his peaceful slumber. Those hopes were shattered by the entrance of his roommate Alex Thompson. "Happy birthday dude!! Now wake the hell up!" Jasper groaned unhappily, all he wanted was 2 more hours of sleep. When Jasper made no motion to wake up, Alex persisted. "Come on man. Not only is it Spring Break, but your damn birthday!!" Jasper realized then that no matter what Alex was set on going out today, so he gave in. Sitting up and checking the clock he replied. "Okay fine, just give me 30 minutes to wake up and shower. Okay?" Alex seemed satisfied as he left the room. As Jasper got up and headed for the bathroom, grabbing a towel along the way, the images from his dreams played in his head. He had the same dream for the past 3 months now. With each day it grew more clearer and specific. In that three months he also had reoccurring migraines . Something was strange, but Jasper had no clue what it was.
As he began to dress a sharp pain shot through his head, connecting from temple to temple. Images rapidly shooting through his mind. A dark alley lay before him, a women dead before him, a monster waiting to attack. His legs gave out as well as his consciousness as he collapsed on the ground. Hours later he awoke to his roommate frantically yelling his name. The left side of his head stung, and he felt sticky, the smell of metal hanging in the air. Blood. He apparently hit his head oh his dresser when he collapsed. "The ambulance is coming man, just stay with me." The wound felt minor, but the way his roommate was acting, you would think he lost a limb. Jasper attempted to respond but his mouth was dry and his words disappeared in his throat. His body felt heavy and any attempt at movement sent pain through his head and sent the room spinning out of focus.
When the ambulance finally arrived he was barely hanging on to consciousness, his vision fading. He hadn't realized he passed out again until he awoke in a hospital bed. The pain was gone, but as he looked around he realized why; morphine drip. Suddenly a Dr. walked in and realized he was awake. "Well, well Mr. Black," he said glancing down at his clip board,"you have quiet a concussion!" The Dr. was tall and had a bad receding hairline. His eyes deep set, but friendly, he also had a hint of a British accent. "We'll have to keep you a few more days to make sure you heal properly. You were extremely fortunate your friend found you, any longer and you would have bled to death, the laceration to your head was not too serious but considering how long you probably sat there bleeding, your lucky to be alive." "Umm, how long have I been out?" "Two days I am afraid, but you will be out in no time." With that he left leaving Chris alone to ponder why he had even passed out in the first place and what the image's meant.
His thought was soon interrupted by a girls speak of joy. Jasper looked to see a familiar face looking at him from the door way. She was a little under average height and petite, her light brown hair falling over her shoulders. Her eyes a deep blue grey, despite their color they were warm and welcoming. Her name was Isabella Heart. She had been Jasper's best friend since the third grade. She ran over to Jasper and hugged him tightly, despite the small twinge of pain he welcomed her hug. Once she released, her expression had changed dramatically. When she arrived it had been relief and happiness on her face, but it had been replaced with anger, and sadness. "Jasper Black! How could you do this to me!?" She scolded her voice breaking. "What? I didn't do it on purpose!" Her expression softened a bit as she began, "You scared the s**t out of me. Here I am getting ready to go out for your birthday when Alex calls me saying he found you unconscious and bleeding in your room. And then you nearly die from loss of blood!! I was so scared!"Jasper could see she had been crying and hadn't slept much, but he couldn't help but feel happy. Isabella had always looked after him even when they were little. When he scraped his knee from falling off the monkey bars she was there with a band aid. He had never known his parents, for they had died when he was just two, and his uncle had never been one for mushy stuff; the man barely ever talked to him, so every once of love and care Isabella gave him he cherished, she was his best friend, and always would be.
Jasper had explained what had happened to him when he passed out, for he knew she was the only one he could tell with out her thinking he was a lunatic. After he finished he waited for her response. "Well...it's interesting, and you don't recognize the women or the place?" Jasper shook his head slightly, he just had another dosage of his medication and he began to grow tired and his concentration diluted. Bella noticed his lack of attention. "I see your meds are kicking in, I will be here tomorrow ok?"
"Bye Bella.." he managed to get out right before he zonked out.
Bella grinned as she walked out, satisfied that he was safe.
The next two days passed quickly now that he was getting better, Bella visited everyday as well as other friends, most bearing gifts meant for his birth day.
I ran out of time but I will post the rest later!
