░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░Ability Information ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░

Species: Human Magus - Rune Knight:
tab tab A 'Rune Knight' is a subclass of magus that casts spells through the understanding of Runic Scriptures, by constructing and deconstructing them with the type of energy he uses. For "ease" I'll say he writes these in the air using his energy/mana/magicka, akin to this. (I'm using d&d for inspiration but taking creative liberties)

Abilities:

{ Runic Charge } passive ability
tab tab To perform any type of his magic, he has to able to empower and charge words in the way of 'Runic Scripting'. This doesn't mean he can freely make up any word to perform a spell, but that he needs an intimate understanding of the spell, the associated vocal words, and their physical script. Failing to expertly perform any of these will result in wasted energy.

{ Gravitational Resistance } passive ability
tab tab This does not mean gravity doesn't affect him or that he's immune. Due to his natural gravitation (pun intended) towards the manipulation of said element, he's highly resistant to the spells of other casters that affect gravitational pull. Basically magically induced or "unnatural" force.

{ Manipulation, Gravity: Devastation }
tab tab Not as destructive as it sounds, Za'saad will create a field in a larger spherical area around himself, that'll increase the strength of gravity within the confines. This makes the area difficult terrain to traverse as your body will feel heavier and might even bring some people to their knees. Weak material or constructions can break as well and moving objects like arrows or bullets will likely be pulled into the ground. This effect remains till his energy is depleted, he is interrupted, or releases the spell. He cannot cast another spell or move to attack as this would be considered break in the stance he has to uphold.

{ Manipulation, Gravity: Lift }
tab tab A small telekinetic-like spell, which allows him to move small objects (such as plates, mugs, small stones to hurl at annoying people).

{ Manipulation, Teleportation: Jaunt }
tab tab This spell lets Za'saad perform a series of three small jumps of up to 10ft each, making him able to move semi-freely within in a 30ft diameter. He has to make each jump within a few seconds of each other or the spell wears off and he needs a clear view of where he is going, as he cannot 'move through' objects or people.

{ Invocation, Contract: I call upon Equinox }
tab tab the effect: This is a contract-bond Za'saad has made with a being from another plane of existence - it is no different than summoning a demon to aid in combat ((the rest of this is just fluff)). Equinox is a sentient, immortal being; meaning, he is not damageable without special equipment or spells. Equinox himself is not magical beyond the bounds of his realm and can only fight with the weapons and shields he brings from his own plane. Neither is he infinitely strong, though stronger than the average human being, and only serves as an additional comrade in battle - he is no greater than an efficient shield that can take hits and hit back.

tab tab the drawback: This spell is very taxing to cast and that doesn't insure Equinox will answer the summons. The creature is of his own and not a pet lightly called upon - Za'saad knows this and uses the scripture warily as to not upset the balance of their contract. Once agreed to be summon, Equinox cannot stay as long as he wants but can leave at any given time. Every moment he spends siphons the magicka/mana/energy of his caster until their reserves are depleted and he will be returned to his own plane - or until a significant enough banishing spell has been cast upon him. Za'saad will be unlikely to cast this spell again for a long time.

░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ Psychological/Physical Information ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░

Personality:

{ Easy-going, Calm, mistaken-for-Apathetic }
tab tab Za'saad is the type to shrug away any situation, whether that be a small loss of coin or a huge battle unfolding before him. He's not emotionless or uncaring, but can appear so at times. He usually doesn't want to get involved in situations but does enjoy being a spectator.

{ mild-Pacifist, Observer }
tab tab After being cast out of his own plane of existence, Za'saad no longer views it to be in his right to act upon a situation. He has done enough in his own realm for a lifetime or two and believes he has to take a step back and let things unfold naturally. With that said, if he finds a situation exceptionally unfair, he may try and balance things out - but leaving a prey to be hunted by it's predator is the natural way of things.

{ Superstitious }
tab tab While Za'saad is not a devout believer in one specific religion, he does believe in the existence of almighty beings and the power of fate and destiny. "Everything happens for a reason", is a good sentence to describe his view of existence, and it ties in to the fact that he likes to take a step back and watch the everything blossom or burn.

{ Sexist, Uneducated }
tab tab Don't misjudge. He is kind to his fellow people (magical or not, men or women) but he grew up in a society with stark views and standards that wouldn't fly in the current day and age. This means that many things baffle him and despite having been around for a while, seeing women in places of power both intrigues and shocks him. That is not to say he doesn't believe she earned her post, just that he's not used to it and he might come across as offensive.

{ Decisive, Responsible, Reliable }
tab tab Being part of military for so long and with the ranks he's had, he knows how to make split second decisions and he will take responsibility for those as well. He's no coward - if he makes a mistake, trust that he'll endure any punishment there may come from it. While he's not relentlessly stubborn, he will do his best to follow through on a promise, be it big or small - he does not take it lightly. On his day to day life, this means he will not just call in sick or take random days off either.

{ Happy, Cheerful }
tab tab While not as loud as his father was, Za'saad still enjoys a good party and will not hide away in a corner. While he may not participate in a conversation as much as other people, he still wants to be there to enjoy it. A good night at a bar reminds him of the good days between battles, drinking and singing with comrades around bonfires. He will screamsing as many drunken bard songs in choir with the rest of his group.

{ Quip, Quirky, Liar, Impish }
tab tab It's almost an involuntary action, but he can't help himself when answering questions; some devilish little part of him just have to tell lies - outrageous or half-believable. He's probably told a hundred different stories about both his eye and his arm, sometimes combining the stories. Ask for directions and he's likely to send you the wrong way. Insult him and he'll insult you right back with a smile.

{ Content }
tab tab Za'saad is no believer of fairytale happy endings. 'Happiness' to him is finding contentedness in your current situation and being satisfied with things as they are - be it your appearance, economic status, or love life. He lives his life day to day with no major goal or need - he's in essence happy with the way things are, never needing more. He might seek out a change of scenery, but that's about it.

Bio:

{ Too Long, Didn't Read }
tab tab Za'saad is from a different plane/universe that thrived on constant war. He was of the rich and wealthy magic community and served the war as a high ranking officer for most of his life. In the final hour of his country's fall, he tried to defend the capital when his wife banished him from their world and he ended up in the current one. He spent 2 years getting established before just arriving to Soleil City, due to being drawn there as a place of power.

tab tab * established as in not crossing red lights and get run over, learning basic functions of this high-tech world, and just basic normal things like understanding the currency and such.

{ Plane of Origin }
tab tab Dimensions are vast and diverse, infinite in possibilities, and Za'saad is from one such world. Still stuck in what seems like the dark ages, his home is divided into magically gifted and non-magical humans. Each continent is ruled by a republic or a kingdom, constantly at a stalemate war with forming and dissolving alliances each passing decade. The distance between rich and poor is immeasurable, getting worse by the century, but Za'saad's generation is the last before the Kingdom of Draemoor’s fall. Draemoor's (the equivalent of Europe) ruler fell ill and died, making way for his idealistic son who wanted a more free society. A free society where anyone could be anything and humans weren't forced into slave-like labor or turned into cannon fodder for the war. It took a year for the borders to be overrun, supply chains and troops never reaching needed destinations, and only ten years later a siege on the capital was successful. Draemoor had stood its ground for centuries and was now nothing more than a province of a split continent. Mages fled in all directions or joined enemy sides; some were captured and charged with crimes of war.

{ Birthright }
tab tab Born into the noble House of Zabirith, Za'saad was the product of generations of arranged marriages; strong Magi mixed and matched to produce the purest of magical spawn. Everyone was performing their duties as taught, men as much as the women. The stronger the magical blood flowed, the higher a family climbed the ladders of society. The men gained high ranks in the military, positions of power such as seats on the king’s personal council, and titles as Dukes and Marquis. The women, on the other hand, lived more sheltered lives. The stronger the magic was in her, the more important she became to keep safe, so she could deliver powerful children. While men and women had an equal importance, they were treated differently. Having a woman working meant she had no greater use in society and these women were often called to as Maiden’s of War - referring to the fact they rarely got married.

{ Family Life }
tab tab Raised by his mother as many other children were, Za’saad wasn’t smothered by any means. While she expressed care and love it wasn’t in hugs and reassurance, but with truth and preparation for his coming life. From the very beginning so let him know his duties as a boy in the family, took the time to explain everything the best she could, and offered wisdom to any of his doubts. Had it not been for her, Za’saad might not have accepted his place. She never promised him a long life of riches and fame, never said he’d find true love and happiness, and taught him that value comes only from his own efforts. The tale of hers that stuck the most to him, was that she didn’t start off wanting her husband - his father - but that through trials and tribulations she came to love him more than her own life. When his father passed away in the war, was the moment Za’saad truly knew how strong his mother was and what love meant in the shape of her grief. She never shed a tear and kept standing tall as they revered his father as a hero, kept up her smiles and usual behaviour in public, and stuck to her duties without falter. A couple of days after the burial, Za’saad caught her weeping quietly to herself in her chambers over his father’s belongings. While she calmed down when he interrupted her, he knew it was a facade. She gave him one of the few embraces he ever had received that night, singing him an old lullaby he finally understood the meaning behind.

tab tab While his mother was a force of nature on her own, Za’saad’s father was a boisterous whirlwind. The man always appeared happy and proclaimed his feelings and thoughts quite loudly. While these never conflicted with their social views, his boasting and confidence often rubbed other people the wrong way - not that he ever minded. His cheerful and happy nature was infectious, proven by the little Za’saad that followed him around whenever he was home. To him, his father was as great a teacher as his mother, though in a different aspect. His father taught him valuable survival skills and combat moves, made sure he knew how to protect himself and channel his magic in the safest, least tiring way. When Za’saad was of age, he joined his father on his conquests, seeing just how powerful and ruthless he could truly be. His battles against other mages were both frightening and sights to behold - but even he wasn’t invincible. In Za’saad’s early twenties, after their borders were being pushed back, his father finally became a casualty of war. They weren’t even able to retrieve his body from the battlefield and had to make an empty grave.

tab tab Outside of his parents, Za’saad had little relation to his family - most of it was just professional respect and while he lived with and grew up with his cousins and such, they never truly bonded. Ulmir, a cousine a few years older than him, was the one that stabbed his eye out, and ultimately they got along the best out of everyone. He never had any siblings.

{ Marriage }
tab tab As per customs with their family, Za’saad had his wife picked for him. The king’s council along with the other strong family houses, found the best suitable candidates for marriage after abilities had been determined. He met her only once before their marriage as a courtesy, but then their union was made and she was moved to the Zabirith’s home. Za’saad had never met as cold a woman as her, maybe he just didn’t notice before, or perhaps his parents’ relations had him believe in fairytales. While he didn’t love her either, he felt a loss at the fact she didn’t sincerely wish him well at the gates when he marched off to war or welcome when he returned home. While they shared chambers, she had no interest in him what-so-ever, and when he tried to initiate any physical between them, she didn’t push him away, but neither did she accept him. While she never abandoned her duties to him, he didn’t want to force himself on her either, so he gave her space, but being on the road months at a time didn’t give him much chance for evolving his relationship with her - and in the end they remained strangers.

{ Equinox }
tab tab Every magus made a contract with a stronger being at some point in their life. Even the women who never participated in the wars had their soul bound to these creatures from a different realm. It was part of coming of age and a way to feed back into the circle. Each contract would provide a magus with more power, boosting their overall magic, while in return the being would consume their soul upon death, thus making it stronger for the next magus’ contract. It was a symbiotic relationship. Equinox is one such being, a giant humanoid figure glad in dark armour and equipped with a heavy weapon and shield. His last contract had just seen it’s end when he came about this young magus aspirant of the Zabirith house. Having had dealings with the bloodline in the past, Equinox gave the boy one chance. While some used techniques of submissions by weakening and trapping the creature to force a contract, others bribed with gifts that spoke to the creature's elements and desires - Za’saad did neither of these things, but instead sought to impress through persistence and display of willpower.

tab tab Their encounter started in a plain, square room - clearly used for summonings in the past. There were no windows, no wall hangings or pretty carpets, just a boy and his board game. Equinox gave the skinny, one-eyes kid a long silent stare, an innocent little smile received in return, and with the benefit of doubt, the creature dropped down to join the game presented. There was no telling what time of day it was, how long they sat, or the intervals between their moves, but by judging by their candles it was hours. While they didn’t get to finish their first game, it established an intellectual bond between them, and through a year of peaceful battles they forged a contract. Equinox became Za’saad’s only true friend in his time at Draemoor and they fought together for years.

{ The Siege }
tab tab As the war came to its peak and Draemoor rallied for a final stance, Za’saad had long since lost his arm to the enemy’s advancements, and was now desperately defending the capital. Once the main gates had been breached, soldiers and mages swamped the city streets. There was little time for pleasantries as everyone fled or got mowed down. In the middle of the chaos, Za’saad ran into his wife - she was calm and collected, seemingly unaffected by the fire, screams, and murder happening around her. He told her to rally at the castle, but what she did next, he would never have thought. She looked him square in the eye, a chilling focus on him before she spoke a strong chant of banishment before she punched him in the chest. He didn’t quite understand her words in the moment, about to object to her shenanigans and tell her they had no time for this, but in the blink of an eye she was gone. In fact, everything was gone. When his brain caught up to the sudden shift, the drums of war had been replaced by song and laughter, chirping birds, and the waves of the ocean. He didn’t know this sunny place and felt a tinge of panic take root in his body. Za’saad had to do something, anything, but as he took his first step, he felt drained and damaged, beaten within an inch of his life, and thus he passed out.

{ A New Beginning }
tab tab Za’saad awoke at a hospital - and while he understood the basics of it upon explanation, he found it foreign and discomforting. There was an empty feeling in him, like something had gone missing, and upon further exploration he found out it was his tether to his world. His magic, his bonds, Equinox - everything was hanging in a thin thread that felt like it would break any moment. He was weaker than ever and while the society helped establish him somehow, it took him months to regain the ability to use magic, almost a year to summon Equinox. Unfortunately, the creature had no valuable information for him, and he instead just accepted his fate and began to wander. He was around for just over 2 years before he came to settle down in Soleil City. While he wasn’t of this world, he could still feel this as a place of power, and it comforted him, so he decided to give staying a try.

Likes:

tab tab ○ Fishing - it's meditative
tab tab ○ Working - it gives life purpose (at least on a smaller, daily scale)
tab tab ○ Flirting - it's a natural way of interacting with others
tab tab ○ Simple life - day to day pleasantries, just surviving without unnecessary worries.
tab tab ○ Bard songs - such as these. They're wonderful and often interesting small stories with a nice melody.
tab tab ○ He adores beer and mead - yes, he will get drunk with you and act like a total fool while at it.

Dislikes:

tab tab ● Wallowing in negative emotions. He doesn't believe in the word 'depression'.
tab tab ● Weakness - in himself and others. Don't throw a damsel in distress at him, he will leave them to their own devices.
tab tab ● Unnecessary involvement - Don't draw him into your problems, he won't help you most likely. (We're talking personal issues or fights)
tab tab ● Rushing - death is inevitable, he's in no hurry to meet his end.
tab tab ● Electronic music - it really just sounds like lots of random noise to him, and it's kind of annoying.

Skills:

{ Weapon Training }
tab tab During his youth, Za'saad went through many types of weapons and were required to learn each one fairly intimately before finding a style more suited to him. This means he can handle swords, axes, and other sharp edges weapons - but after he lost his arm, he can no longer shoot bow and arrows.

{ Polearm Mastery [x] [x] }
tab tab While too weak to handle heavy two-handed weapons such as claymores or warhammers and -axes, Za'saad finds himself most comfortable wielding polearms. They put him at a range advantage against other melee weapons and thus out of immediate danger, but still provide heavy and sharp attacks that can be hard to block. Even after he lost his one arm, he seems to favour this type of weapon, though his handle of it has changed and he relies more on close up combat than usual.

{ Strategist, Boardgame-master }
tab tab While not technically bearing the title of master in anything, he's well versed in arts of war, and that transfers onto the more peaceful battle of boardgames. If you're looking for a long, well-thought-out game of chess, he's your guy.

{ Agile, Acrobatic }
tab tab Due to being... well, weak, Za'saad can't take many punches to the face and thus spent a lot of time training how to vault, tumble, bob, and weave as the only way to defend himself. Even if he were to block an attack, he might get knocked off his feet.

{ Basic Survival Skills }
tab tab While no longer an easy feat to hunt, he can still make a fire and survive in the wilderness should he need to.

Body Type:
tab tab Slim, thin, skinny, some obvious muscles but by no means strong. He's not one to win the arm-wrestling contest.

Health:
tab tab He seems to be in excellent health, despite a few aches and pains - which is pretty normal considering he's missing an arm.

Strengths:
tab tab ○ Tenacity - never give up, never give in.
tab tab ○ Adaptability - while he's had a bit of a culture shock and equal amounts of beatings, he's learning each step of the way and surviving.

Weakness:

● Technological Wonder:
tab tab While magic and technology walks hand in hand, Za'saad is from a world that is still stuck in a medieval time, where electricity is an attack, not a way to illuminate your night. He's very fascinated by everything, but equally confused.

● Physical comfort:
tab tab Well, sex. Za'saad is absolutely touch-deprived and tend to gravitate naturally towards people who're very touchy-feely.

● Cripple:
tab tab He's literally missing a whole arm (and doesn't use prosthetic), of course that comes with an array of disadvantages. Have you tried tying your shoes with one hand? This has been his life for a while so he's used to it, but at times he could use a help with menial tasks. It also makes it hard for Za'saad to properly wield his favourite type of weapons, but he manages... ish.

● Depth perception:
tab tab Again: he's missing a whole eye. While this was ages ago when he was still a kid and his body and reactions has adjusted, he can still miss a catch or similar. It's like a permanent -2 to aim.

What you look for in a partner:

tab tab ♡ Honesty - he's not looking for sugarcoating innocent bunny. If he's being a jerk, call him a jerk.

tab tab ♡ Companionship - if you want to be a stay-at-home housewife, go elsewhere. He wants someone that can challenge him and not agree with his every whim, someone with a mind and opinions of their own.

tab tab ♡ Physical Attraction - being touched starved, this is actually quite important to him. He wants and seeks the physical, and having a mutual attraction really helps with this. He's under no illusion about this being superficial, but the body wants what the body wants.

tab tab ♡ Strength - this could also be called independence or individuality. He doesn't want to be your hero, but for you and him to be equals. If you need him to save you every other step, he might just push you out in front of the next car himself. Seriously, damsels in distress are in danger.

Theme Song:
tab tab Gravity - Maaya Sakamoto (Cover by ThatGuyWithTheRobe)
Lyrics:

Been a long road to follow
Been there and gone tomorrow
Without saying goodbye to yesterday
Are the memories I hold still valid?
Or have the tears deluded them?

Maybe this time tomorrow
The rain will cease to follow
And the mist will fade into one more today

Something somewhere out there keeps calling
Am I going home?
Will I hear someone singing solace to the silent moon?
Zero gravity, what's it like?

Am I alone?
Is somebody there beyond these heavy aching feet
Still the road keeps on telling me to go on
Something is pulling me
I feel the gravity of it all
