Has anyone here heard of Terry Pratchett?

He's like...the Douglas Adams of fantasy. In other words, he's extremely witty and creative. Aaaand...most of his books are parodies of certain ideas. The Wyrd Sisters, for instance, stabs at Macbeth. (In the most respectful and awesome of ways) Soul Music stabs at the music industry, Moving Pictures stabs at movie-stuffs, Monstrous Regiment stabs at war...etc, etc.

Soooo...back on topic. Iffin you have heard of him, what do you like about him and what's your favorite of his books?

...and I just *know* that I've managed to post this in the wrong place and make a nuisance of myself...apologies, apologies...^^;;;

Terry Pratchett is the GOD of comic fantasy. I can't believe you've never heard of this guy, Leav.

I'm a fan of the Death series. I think Thief of Time was my favorite. It's been so long since I read a Pratchett book. Perhaps I should go pick up a new one. What do you recommend, Frailtz?

So far my favorite characters from his books are Rincewind, the luggage, and Death.

My favorite of the books I've read so far was 'The Last Continent'.

Terry Pratchett = Awesome.

I love Soul Music. The story was a bit confusing at first, but then once you get used to it, it gets hilarious.

Reaper Man is also my favorite Discworld novel. It's one of the best novels that Pratchett ever wrote.

Love Terry Pratchett!!! heart heart heart
The luggage is one of the best characters in the disc world series but Rincewind is pretty great too. ALso check out the Tiffany aching series (wee free men, a hat full of sky, Wintersmith). It's good stuff.

I fell in heart with Terry Pratchett earlier this year, following a conversation with a friend about reading materials. I happened to be re-reading Gary Niven's Ringworld for the fifth time when my friend comes up and whacks me on the back of the head with The Fifth Elephant. "Read this," he says, "and tell me you'll never be able to tell the same jokes the same way ever again. This guy messes with your mind in the best way possible. It's like high-class, intellectual porn for your brain cells. It's like marriage counseling for your eyes. It's like all those dirty jokes you read in your daddy's Penthouse mags and told your friends when no one else was around all rolled into one, stuff in a cig wrapper, and lit for God by the Devil." I read it. I can't think in the same patterns I used to; everything I think is tinged with the dry-yet-ironic humor found within the pages of the Discworld series. I devoured 14 books in a third as many days, a record even for me. I got detention for having a laughing spasm about the sounds animals should and shouldn't make (see Feet Of Clay) in the middle of English Lit. I have no regrets whatsoever.

addiced to terry pratchett, i think his weiting is hilarious, and i love his books. my favourite character is either granny weatherwax, or susan bones. i also love sam vimes. i think granny weatherwax should meet susan bones! my favourite books are just ones that contain these charcaters, but i also really prefer some of his more recent stuff to old books. i'm not actually a huge fan of colour of magic etc, just don't find it as good as going postal or thud!

i am a deffinate terry pratchett lover

Everyone should read Terry Pratchett.
If you have an imagination and a sense of humor, that is.
