First off, I would like to thank you all for choosing to participate in Genuine! We're honored to have you here!
Whether you choose to join us permanently, or prefer to be a hit-and-run chatter, we'll always be happy to talk about whatever.
That said, the primary focus of this guild is art and art-related discussion.
We accept artists and aspiring artists of all skill levels and disciplines, both digital and traditional:
crafts
music
painting
photography
sculpture
sketching
textiles
writing
video
etc.
And we are all here to enjoy ourselves and make friends.
To that end, Genuine has a few rules that we ask you to follow:

DON'T PUT DOWN OTHERS' WORKS
Not everyone here needs to be the next Picasso, and we all have to start somewhere. Giving someone constructive criticism when they are asking is of course perfectly fine, but needlessly berating the quality of someone's work is not. The former encourages growing artists to improve, the latter only discourages them from trying. (And it makes you look like a huge a*****e.) This kind of behavior will not be tolerated.
DON'T INFRINGE OTHERS' WORKS
We all know that taking or posting wholesale the work of another without their permission constitutes copyright infringement, which is illegal, and the guild crew will remove any such works that it finds. Instead, I want to use this section to talk about Fair Use and how it may allow portions of existing works to be used in new ones without the original artist's permission. Fair Use is pretty nuanced and subjective, so please read about it on Wikipedia. This guild will not remove member works that are being defended with Fair Use, if the crew decides that the argument is valid.
DON'T COME HERE FOR HANDOUTS
This is not the place for you to hit and run for free art. If you stay and talk with us for a while, maybe somebody will decide to make you some art, but do not come in here expecting any. What you get – if you get anything at all – is entirely up to the artists, and they have every right to refuse your request.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO JOIN, BE ACTIVE
Genuine's forum is public, which means that you don't have to become a member to post here. If you do decide to hit that great gold 'Join' button, we would appreciate it if you did it with the intend of staying. We don't have a minimum activity rule, but we do go through the member list every few months and clean out those who haven't posted in at least three.
ADDITIONALLY, SOME GUIDELINES
Avoid stretching the page horizontally. Use thumbnails if you want to post large works.
Post your topics in the correct subforums. This will maximize your chances of being seen. The crew will move any misplaced topic, so it's no big deal.
Don't advertise for other services outside of the designated threads or conversations, unless it's in your signature. If you want to affiliate with Genuine, you may PM the guild captain.
