I haven't read the manga, I have seen the dub and the Japanese versions of Sailor Moon and read so much stuff on the Sailor Moon Wiki etc that I now really can't get into the Manga since I know what happens but I REALLY want to read the manga but I just find it pointless, I know basically everything that happens in it, yes it is the jist of it but still I just can't bring myself to read it even though I want to since I basically know what happens.

I'd say start at the beginning, and if possible, do it slowly. Ease your way into the story. Maybe compare what you read to what you know of the anime, to take note of the differences in those universes.

Make it as fun, and as easy, as you can.

Start with the Sailor V manga.

Note how similar Minako is to Usagi, and then compare that to how cooler than Usagi she is in the anime, because she's had a lot of time to mature (and somehow use her powers to be less of a klutz).

Then when you read the Sailor Moon manga, notice how Usagi starts out, and how she grows up. See a pattern? This also happens with Chibi-usa.

I have never advocated war

heart The manga is very much different from the anime, no matter what the wiki does or doesn't tell you. Even with the Sailor V manga compared to the story that was told in the SM anime about her is very different

If you have any questions, you can ask me. I've read the manga so many times that mine are starting to fall apart xD heart

I found it to be much faster and far more violent than the anime. I liked it a lot more than the anime.

The manga's value is that it is the original story Naoko Takeuchi told. The original Anime is based off of this, albeit adapted to TV with tonnes of Anime-only filler. The Manga tells just about the same story at the end of the day, but with less filler. The Anime also deviated from the manga for the sake of the filler as well, so there will be noticeable differences in how the Manga's storyline rolls out. The Manga cuts to the chase more readily. Furthermore, the Manga's content reveals an implied science fiction undertone most people don't notice.

sailor Moon, at the end of the day is a Magical Girl science fantasy story riddled with romance.... this is why my eyes twitch when people write about Silver Millennium being Renaissance or Medival era, when the manga is pretty clear that the Kingdom of the Moon was hundreds of times more advanced than anything earth possessed. It is implied that the original parents of the Senshi weren't even originally from this system. They colonised it, likely running from the Sailor War and Galaxia. Small wonder Queen Serenity says the people of earth called her Selene, the Greek personification of the Moon itself.

Selene, according to Greek myth, was a Titan Goddess who was the Moon personified in the same vein as Helios was the personification of the Sun. Takeuchi used alot of Mythological references to tie the past in with the present and the future. Apollo and Artemis later became associated with the Sun and Moon respectively, but the positions of Helios and Selene remained part of the Greek pantheon, even though they weren't part of the principal 12 Olympian gods.

Personally, I would say that the Manga is good for people who like little filler and can read at their leisure if they have the attention span for it. (It's a quick and easy read. Even my ADHD brain enjoys it) (as someone else said, Sailor V is a good place to start because it's a Prequel to Sailor Moon.)

That said, if you're easily bored by non-moving pictures and a lot of words, I'd go with Sailor Moon Crystal if you want to have the same vibe (similar at least) to the Manga but don't want to deal with the 90s Anime.

Likewise, if you just want to enjoy things that are a little unpredictable, but are a retelling of the story in a different way:

I'd Suggest finding Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, the Live Action story that only covers the Dark Kingdom arc. It's a Similar story but told differently with new spin on certain elements. (yes, I know it's cheesy, but Sailor moon is based off the Sentai (Power Rangers) genre to begin with, so it fits. )

PGSM is Character Driven, rather than plot exclusively. In my opinion it has the best Character stories in the sense that it gives you time to love and see the positives and flaws of the heroes and understand them better.

For another off the wall thing you have a lot to pick from: The Musicals. There's quite a few and some are closer to the 90s anime and some (more recent ones) are closer to the Manga.

But it doesn't matter which one you choose, however, because they all have their own personal take on the story with lovely music and choreography

And, of course, if you want a Ton of Filler about the characters doing things aside from the plot, there's always the 90s anime. Now which version of it is up to you if you can find'em. There's the Obvious Viz Dub and Sub. (this is new) that sticks somewhat close to the original sub/Original story of the 90s anime.

Then there's the DiC/Cloverway Dub (which I wouldn't necessarily recommend because it's very outdated, however there's music and Voice action directions that might get a good laugh or endearing to the viewer. However, as I said, it's both outdated, erases some significant cultural bits, and does some wild editing that changes the story beats. Usually for censoring (like Zoi- and fisheye were turned into women to Avoid The gay), but also for some 'comedic' stuff.

So, you kinda have your choices here.
