Toge AlphaFenris Howdy folks, I've LARPed for quite a few years. Mostly a game in California called Adventures, as well as some NERO (International). Weapon style of choice is florentine swords or repeating crossbow w/ throwing knives. I've cranked out more boffers over the years than I can count. I was there to see the progression from pipe insulation, to flatblades, to ultralights with graphite cores. Now crossbows is something new to me. How did you get it to hit hard enough to be effective, but not hurt?
Depends on the crossbow. For my repeating crossbow it's pretty much honor system. The bolts are light and short-ranged so either the target sees themself get hit, or you let them know about it with a quick shout (it won't be felt through heavy armor).
For the heavier and longer range bows they can be felt easier, but often they take the hits on honor as well.
It's usually not a problem. Heck, with the repeater I usually land 4 hits on a target, anyway.
