So crazy! I just saw this and was like woh. I just wish that they had gone into depth about why she needed it longer to speak Korean. :l Really, why? Do Koreans have longer tongues than, say, British people? What about the Japanese? Chinese? Syrians? xD I don't know much about Korean.

Well, they did mention that she had a shorter than average tongue. So I think for most people their tongue is the proper length to speak Korean. Who knows, maybe her English pronunciation improved as well.

The fact that her tongue was shorter than average made this not seem so strange. If she literally wasn't about to pronounce the sounds properly, then I suppose it's a good thing she got this surgery.

I have a pretty short tongue (i can't even stick it out 0.5cm past my lips), but I'm still able to pronounce Korean.

It's odd, but I suppose ultimately it's her choice.

There's a longer article on it. It seems like she had a pretty minor surgery, so I doubt she'll regret it even if she gives up Korean in a week. I think the news over blew this whole story.

Maybe she was tounge-tied. I have that condition too, but I never needed to have it fixed
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankyloglossia (it's picture of a tongue, but language is all about the toungue)

But unless it interferes with eating it's fine.

I can speak other languages just fine even though I'm tounge tied. I speak Japanese and a little Korean and I've been complemented on my pronunciation before.

Pronouncing the "th" noise must have been annoyingly difficult...
