Also, does anyone have any idea what happened here? I'm completely baffled by this one step. I hate how my textbook keeps jumping around without explaining, it's just more confusing than helpful!

Nevermind! I figured it out at last, they just took the two expressions, grouped them together and pulled (2/3)x^(-1/3) out of the entire thing ... this is just ridiculous!
Note to self, kill the authors of this textbook! burning_eyes
