Ruined or helped sonic's franchise?

Personally, I can't say - mainly because I'm not a child anymore (hence the dubbing company called "4kids") and that my opinion would be rather strange from it, and for the fact that I haven't seen too many episodes of the series. Honestly, I don't believe it's either helped or ruined the franchise. At most, it's probably made it more annoying for fanart, considering A LOT of Sonic fans resort to Sonic X screenshots for recolouring and making their fan characters. :/ Even then it's not 4kids fault, since they just do the dubbing and script; not the animation.

But bashing or talking about 4kids is silly in my opinion, mainly because through a teenagers' or adults' POV, it's all ridiculously silly and strangely/terribly scripted. That's mainly cause of the audience directed towards kids of a younger age, so it needs to be simplified or dubbed.

Don't get me wrong, i had no intentions of bashing a little children's show.
I just wanted to see how people felt about the show, because alot of people on other websites claim that this show has ruined sonic's appearance in many ways. I ,for one, have not seen many episodes either, but from the ones i've seen, they were pretty legit. Meaning they weren't bad, but they weren't the best.

I understand what you mean on the whole screen shots and recoloring the characters in, sayings its they're fan character and stating how original they are....derp.....I just wish some sonic games/shows were abit more mature. Not having blood/gore/nudity. But maybe some type of good story-line with some violence. But i have to say, the games are getting better. Alot of people like Sonic Colors~yay

I agree with his opinion on the matter, as I say on mine is that 4kids indeed helped it in a bit as in sonic is better known now, but what I hated about sonic x is when they tried to put all of the sonic games from 2000 into the series, in a small arcs that didn't relate much to the actual games.

Well I assumed you weren't bashing the show or anything, especially since you just mentioned they were legit, but I just find it hilarious when fans will throw a fit because "It isn't cool or badass enough like the Japanese version!" Well of course it isn't the same as the Japanese version! We in the Western environment have treated anime and cartoons very differently to those in the Eastern environment - so we tend to dub down the series to make it more 'kid friendly'.

Honestly, I couldn't help but laugh at that sentence. A lot. xd Mainly because, in my opinion, the Sonic fandom is INCREDIBLY picky and unstable. If they think Sonic X ruined Sonic's image, have they ever seen Sonic Underground? Or even Sonic and the Black Knight and Sonic Unleashed? They ALL fool around with Sonic's reputation in different, very drastic ways. Fans nowadays will find anything to complain about. And for the record, I was a Sonic Underground kid even though it was such a terrible concept! XD

Don't get me wrong - I know the Sonic games are far from perfect, but I just find it ridiculous when a fanbase rages over what colour Sonic's eyes are *cough*Sonic 4*cough*. That was just stupid to complain about that. :I

Not trying to sound nostalgic or old, but I found a lot of 80s or 90s kids shows had some really great and heavy plots, including some violence here and there that wasn't overwhelming for a young audience (Reboot being the best example). If they brought back some similar elements from the 80s or 90s, I think they would become very successful. I've played through Sonic Colors, and I know the plot wasn't heavy at all, but seemed just right for the type of retro-platformer the game was. I don't think Sonic Colors was a best example for great storylines though, since the plot was pretty... blaaah. But it made sense for a Sonic game since I believe they shouldn't be plot heavy. It was a good name none the less.

I actually enjoyed the Sonic Adventures arcs in Sonic X, since I thought it was interesting to see the way they interpreted Chaos and the Biolizard. They purposely changed them when animated the series though, because they assumed the audience has already played the games. They didn't want to repeat themselves again.

I think a prime example of this would actually be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I have yet to see the series, but apparently the first few episodes are rushed through, with some subtle changes here and there, because Brotherhood is the SAME as the manga script. They figured since the audience has already read the manga, that they should speed up and change the plot to the animated series so there's some variety to the anime.
