Proposed Changes
For the Community
Guild software isn't the primary issue: guild culture is. Even if we were to get all the features ever requested, it wouldn't solve all of our problems. We need to:
Unite behind a common mission of comradery and dynamism, Work together as partners to help all of our guilds thrive, Improve our attitudes and engage respectfully with each other, other Gaia community members, and developers, Become active, involved, and dedicated rather than moving from one failed guild to start another, And give back to the broader Gaian community instead of closing ourselves off from it.
For the Code
Many thanks to Ivaylo_Sai for having originally composed this.
Fix BBCode
BBCode doesn't work in guilds the way it does in the forums.
For example, in forums:
[color=black]This part would be black. [color=green]This part would be green.[/color] And this part would be black.[/color]
But in guilds, to get the same effect requires more work.
[color=black]This part would be black.[/color][color=green]This part would be green.[/color][color=black] And this part would be black.[/color]
Subforums
We would like to see the following:
Ability to sort subforums. All this would take is a sort integer next to the name and sort the query that pulls the subforums by that integer. Ability to move or delete topics en masse, which would make the need to sort subforums less urgent. Ability to delete subforums or to hide their existence from public view. The clutter is displeasing to the eye. Ability to set subforums to read-only for those who are not on crew, so regular members can read without posting. This would be useful for, say, reference subforums. Subforum icon to dynamically display new posts. This should be able to use the same basic code as the posts themselves. Column arrangement of subforums, which takes up less space. This is the current setup in the public forums. Descriptions of each subforum to be displayed beneath the link on the subforum list. This is the current setup in the public forums. Subforum page-count to reflect number of topics that currently exist in the subforum.
Crew Duties
We would like to see the following:
Permanent ban option for members who are not welcome. Ability for regular crew to remove (not ban) inactive members; currently, only captains and vice-captains can do this. Ability to select multiple members at a time to perform an action, such as removal. Custom rank options in addition to the three we already have.
Guild Membership
We would like to see the following:
Join application to have a text box displaying an optional "Join Requirements" message set in the Moderator Panel. List of members to display a "joined date." List of members to be able to be sorted by username, joined date, last post date, and number of posts.
Guild Page
We would like to see the following:
CSS customization of guild pages, like we have for V2 profiles. "Recently Visited" (or at least "Recently Joined") list, to improve the outreach abilities of the crew.
Guild Search
We would like to see the following:
Guild search to make sense. As of now, looking up specific guilds by name does not always bring the guild in question to the top of the page. Date of most recent post to be listed in search results, to determine level of activity before joining. Guilds that haven't seen a new post in six months should not show up in the search at all. More than five tags for the guild search. Most code uses a comma-separated list for search tags, allowing users to input as many or as few as they like. More advanced search options (exclude guilds by cost, level of activity, number of members, number of posts, age, etc.) Ability to delete abandoned or inactive guilds.
