I'm not sure if this is a repeat thread or not. If it it, feel free to tell me and I'll go to the original.

Well, I may be running out of ideas for contests. For my Aerosmith guild I've done two caption contests, Halloween/Christmas avi contests, sentence contest, art contest, poetry/song contest, and that's all I've done so far. I'm not sure what else to do. Trivia and lyric games are hard because some people would cheat and just go to Google so I'm not sure what else to do. It would be nice to have a few suggestions.

In my guild about The Doors, I've done one caption competition. It's hard to do anything with them. Not enough people enter and they are a bunch of kill joys who don't bother to enter. I need a really good competition, but nothing comes to mind.

What effective competitions have you all used for your guilds?

I know how you feel D:
I am running out of ideas too crying
The only contest I did was a bump contest.

The first person to reach 2000 won a 250k item...
but than my guild a is charity one sweatdrop
But the idea is still good to use right?

That sounds like a good idea. Not sure if it's fit for my guild though due to the theme, you know?

I am just aggravated for the fact that my guild about The Doors doesn't act like they want to do anything. The suggestions that both guilds did make was, "Oh! Do a trivia contest!" I was thinking about making my own fill in the blank thing. Not sure if word puzzles would be considered "lame" or what.

It'd be nice if more people would post in this thread so we could share ideas of contests/competitions

People are so lame...they want to be in an "active" guild not realizing how
"those" guilds got "active and popular" is BECAUSE people are posting and being ACTIVE!
stare

My guild have a rotation of 4 main people posting and now were getting a little bit more...Out of a group of 159 rolleyes

I wish I could help some more...I'm trying to think of a main contest to do next month... If I could help in anyway lemme know D:

I hear ya. There are usually like just a few that try to keep it active and sometimes I feel like I'm failing my guild when there are no contests and that it's becoming just "lame". I try my best to motivate them. I think my Aerosmith guild is more of a fun guild because Aerosmith is more of a crazy and more well known band.

The Doors were around about 5 years or so and since the lead singer, Jim, was more of a darker type guy and a poet, his stuff is more in thought and sometimes even depressing. Think some of my people in that guild are like that or trying to be like that so it's hard to do a lot with them. I intend for the guild to be still as fun as possible, but I'm stumped. I try to create threads to keep up a discussion. I want to do more with them though. I won't give up on that guild, it's just that I want to make it more exciting. It seems like most of them are guys or something and are all serious. I need some more crazy fangirls =(

Sometimes I like to do more than one contest at a time so there is a choice to choose between. Thanks, if ya need any help as well, I'd be willing to =)

How exactly does a lotto work in a guild?

(Just so you know, we're mods in the same guild) You can do it many ways.

What we did for this one was that we sold tickets for 100 gold each--90 gold to the pot and 10 gold per ticket for the host (No Gambling in Paradix). We assigned numbers for tickets simply in the order they were bought in.

You can see the thread here. That might help...any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks, maybe I could try that if I can get enough to participate.

Anyone else have any other ideas?

Well... Feel free to use any of my ideas that I'm about to mention... but trying to keep it related to your guild, although noble, isn't always possible. I don't really have any ideas that would be specific to your guild but maybe you can take our ideas and spin them to include some theme from your guilds.

I'm leader of a Word Games Guild, so we generally just do whatever we want in way of events. We have monthly Lottos and raffles as well as Avatar Contests. In February, we're going to have our second Dating Game Event. I have people sign up and choose a Bachelor and a Bachelorette, then everyone gets a mule sent to them to use so no one knows who is who and than the Bachelor and Bachelorette each ask various questions and declare a 'winner' at the end. Prizes are then distributed accordinly.

The month after that, I have an event planned where people have to solve puzzles and collect clues to solve the 'kidnapping'. If you want more info on this particular event, just PM me and I'll explain anything about it to you.

I'll try to remember more later.

The Night Faery

PostPosted: Tue Jun 28, 2011 7:25 pm
Hi there... so it seems like this guild has all but died, but I thought I might try to pump a couple of posts into its veins in hopes of reviving it...?

Anyway, I'm Night, and I'm the captain of Down the Rabbit Hole, an Alice in Wonderland guild. Thankfully AiW is a pretty lucrative topic, with lots of places to go for contests (we cover the Looking Glass world too, as well as all the adaptations.)

Last year, when I had been freshly voted in as captain, I started an annual guild event called the March Madness Extravaganza. Most of the legwork was done by me and Lady March Hare, a very dedicated crew member of mine. We had three threads, each with a contest: Dice rolling, a quote contest ("capturing the Pig Boy") and a tektek contest.

This year it was pretty much all me after Marchy and I had a brainstorm. We had a scavenger hunt (started in the main thread and little rhyming couplets led to other threads throughout the guild-- collect them all and get a prize), a "political debate" (Caucus Race) with campaign speeches and debate Q&A, and a banner contest.

People responded really well to all of those contests, even though our guild is pretty small and not the most active in the world-- so feel free to put your own spins on the ideas. (:
