Chapter 8
After Ellen finished her rant, the pair walked towards the mansion. The mansion was located in a very affluent neighborhood of course, so every house was a masterpiece. The Burwin Estate, however, was the most magnificent of all. It was only two stories unlike the rest of the mansions, but it was on twice as much land as the rest of them. There were three different buildings that were part of the property; one was a small boathouse that sat on the pond, one was a guesthouse, and of course, there was the mansion. From the front of the building one could see almost straight through the house; it had a very open floor plan and the windows went from ceiling to floor in most places. The grass looked freshly cut. The homeowners’ association must have been keeping the façade looking nice so as not to reduce the property value of the surrounding houses. Even though the building has been unattended for decades, it was still beautiful.

Ellen began daydreaming of what it would be like to spend the rest of her days here with that special someone. She could almost smell the amazing meals being cooked as she prepared to entertain family and friends. The children would be running around the indoor basketball court while Neon was thoughtfully observing the sunset and writing. It would be beautiful. Neon was thinking about how dreadful it must be to live in such a large place with only one child. This was a lot of space for two people, especially when one of those people was a little girl. No wonder he was so devastated when she disappeared! And what ever happened to his wife? He must have had one at some point, unless the child was adopted or born out of wedlock. Neon came here for answers and all he was getting was more questions.
