I remember when these games were so active you could post at the same time as someone else and would then have to edit for it to make sense!

That's why I'd always hit "preview" first to see any new posts that might have happened while I was typing... and I would still end up having to go back and edit because someone posted seconds before me emotion_facepalm

I remember doing that too. Especially RP posts. emotion_facepalm So many of those ended up being edited, and by the time I'd edit my post, there was more to read. cat_sweatdrop

How come inactive members aren't purged?

Because you never know if they'll be back, and it's not like there's a limit cap on how many members a guild can have. Only reason I can think of to purge is to give a more realistic expectation to new members of how active the guild is, which isn't really that high of a priority.
