Laila wondered what to do. Her entire life had been normal and now it had stopped- which meant that she was completely unprepared. Slowly, she lifted a finger (the one that didn't hurt all that much) for silence and began quietly counting facts to herself.
Fact one: Crashed in airplane. BAD. Fact two: Still alive despite crash: GOOD Fact three: Lots of pain everywhere: BAD Fact four: Almost eaten by wolves: BAD Fact five: Not eaten by big wolf: GOOD Fact six: Friendly-acting human around: GOOD
Well, that was conclusive. She'd found out a few important things, the main one being something she really had known all along: this was quite possibly the worst day of her life. Even despite the bit where half of her counting facts had come up positive. It made her feel quite out of her depth. What could she do? Actually, that question answered itself pretty easily. She should not stay on the beach, because here was where people got eaten. Carefully, she looked at the man- boy?- person who was her companion now. He seemed nice enough and well, not trusting strangers was all fair and things but at this point, Laila couldn't see any better option. "I... I don't think I can stand alone," she muttered meekly, almost ashamed to even have to admit it.

Laila winced when the boy picked her up. Yes, he was being as gentle as he could, but she was bruised all over and every step he took sent a small jolt of pain through her. She tried not to show it, even though she wasn't sure how well she managed. "I hurt.... ow!" she inhaled sharply at an especially painful rocking motion, "Everywhere." If she'd been with her dad, she probably would have cried. He always told Laila how she was too whiny, but well... he was always there for her when she'd hurt herself. Except not this time. This time, she was alone and scared in the company of a strange boy she didn't know anything about.
In an attempt to distract herself, mostly, and getting to know her rescuer... number two? a little bit better, she piped up in what she hoped was a more cheerful voice. "Why are you here? How do you live in the woods?" Certainly, Laila herself wouldn't survive a day in the woods on her own. This boy, on the other hand, seemed to have lived there all his life.

For a moment, Laila caught herself noticing the rather intimate way she was now pressed against the boy. She quickly shook her head to alleviate the thought- it was completely irrational and definitely far-fetched- and immediately winced when she found out, yet again, that moving quickly really hurt. Her head spun, and for a moment she wondered if she would be sick. Fortunately, she wasn't- she just retched a little, too weary even to throw up. At this point, the close embrace her odd companion held her in was actually strangely comforting. It reminded her of her father, perhaps.
"Spirit the wolf? Is that your wolf friend?" she asked him quietly, not even wanting to strain her voice (or move any other part of herself, for that matter). And she wondered what it was like to sleep in a cave all your life. She found that she couldn't imagine it for whatever reason- in fact, she'd never actually slept in a cave her entire life. On a plane, several times, in cars and all manners of transportation as well as every imaginable hotel and house- but never really outside, on the ground. Well, she would have to find out what it was like now.
(( Oh, that's quite all right. You timed it perfectly! Also, Happy Birthday in advance! ))

Laila would have nodded, but she decided not to as she very vividly remembered her experience with trying to shake her head. It had been a particularly unpleasant moment among the numerous unpleasant moments that this day had brought to her. Instead, she opted to produce an affirming sound when he confirmed that, as she'd thought, Spirit was his wolf friend. Well, now she knew the name of that large wolf- whatever that meant. Hopefully, it was good. Maybe she could pet it and call it by name, like her friend's dog. The thought brought a small smile to her lips.
Then, after what seemed like a small eternity of being carried- actually, Laila was impressed at the boy's stamina- they reached a cave. Unless the boy was lost, this would be the cave he'd spoken about, the cave where he lived. Slightly curious, she looked around in the dark place as she was carried through it. Finally, she ended her journey in an impressive mountain of furs. Are these real? Wait, of course they're real. Obviously, someone in the wild wouldn't be able to get hold of fake furs. With exaggerated, though very justified, care, Laila raised herself into a sitting position and examined the bowl of goo she'd just been handed. It looked unappetizing and had a corresponding smell to boot. Despite herself, she drew a face- she remembered that medicines were supposed to taste foul, but this was definitely a step up from any unpleasant medicine she'd met before. Suspiciously, she poked her finger at the green goo and noticed immediately that her finger was among the places on her body that hurt.
In fact, if this goo was supposed to make sore spots better.... she'd like a tub of it to lie down in. Laila cast a glance toward her rescuer, who was busying himself near the front of the cave as he'd said he would. Carefully, she put the bowl aside and began on the tedious task of trying to remove enough of her clothes that she could reach all the sore spots- and quickly found out that she wasn't actually capable of taking off any of her things in her current state. "s**t," Laila murmured to herself. Turning to her rescuer, she wanted to call out to him and ask him for help (however awkward that would be), but suddenly realized that she actually didn't know what his name was. She'd have to ask as soon as possible. "Um. I think I need some help?"

On the plus side of everything that was going on, the odd forest boy had heard her plea for help even though she hadn't said it very loudly. On the less positive side, the situation did not actually get any less awkward. If anything, it merely got more awkward now that he was standing in front of her in all his bare-chested glory. "I-... can't reach all my sore spots," Laila managed to mumble out rather lamely, after which she immediately felt her face burst into metaphorical flames. This was much worse than some boy at school stealing a kiss from her unexpectedly (which had only happened once, but still).
Flustered, she looked away from her rescuer, even though she felt terribly inconsiderate and disrespectful for it. She just couldn't bear to look at him for just a moment or so. Instead, she watched her fingers toy (carefully, mind you) with the green goo in the bowl he'd given her earlier. "Could.... you help me with that?"
(( I did indeed have a very nice Christmas! I hope yours was at least as good and that your New Year's Eve is no less enjoyable biggrin ))

Laila was honestly impressed with how stoic the boy seemed. Until the moment when it struck her that he'd said he'd lived alone in the forest all his life, at which point things moved a bit in perspective for her. Of course he wouldn't feel the same amount of awkwardness and exposure that she did because he must be used to walking around half-dressed. That, on the other hand, made her wonder whether she would end up like that too. But just for a tiny moment, since the next moment made the hair on the top of her neck stand up. He'd gently taken her hand and was cleaning the goo of it! If Laila had been capable of sinking into the ground in shame, she would have done so in that instant. Instead, she looked on with disbelief and shuddered when he touched her jacket, tugged on it.
She tried to make up her mind. All there was to fear- she dearly hoped- was her own embarrassment at having to undress in front of a boy. And a complete stranger, at that, which just added to the weirdness of it all. On the other hand, she wouldn't have to leave her jacket off for long, right? It'd just be a few minutes until she and the strange boy had applied the oddly comforting goo (whatever it was, it helped) to her bruised and battered body. Laila gave up. "N-... Yes. Yes, I can take it off. Or you can, because I can't."
( She isn't wearing any lawyers tho xp )
