The Blackthorn Inn

[Lord Bartheyamus Aurlin]

The male raised his head, acknowledging the pair, irritated by their lack of grace. He scoffed and then returned to listening to his surroundings.

At the guest counter, Willow pulled out the keys for the front door and held them protectively in her hand. It was getting very late now, and soon the night outside would be filled with horrors that nobody, not even the strongest of beasts could withstand. Willow had lost her whole town to this madness, and she was not about to let enyone else have the same fate, even if the they were complete strangers. She walked towards the front door acknowledging the two that walked in only slightly.

After receiving his drink, the male turned to where Willow was standing.

"What are you so afraid of?" he asked in a stoic and monotone voice.

"I smell," he paused to find the word "Fear on you..."

He stood from his seat and walked to her.

"What is troubling this place?"

After locking the front doors and checking to make sure the bolt was tight, she wandered over to the man's table, handed him his drink, and replied blankly "If you smell fear, then it's probably because there is fear. Settle down and finish your drink; I'll arrange a room for you to stay in eventually. But I won't let you go back into the forest, and that's that."

Then she moved on to the next table where the younger pair was sitting. Since the girl was asleep, she address the boy sitting next to her. "May i help you?"

Seamus looked around at the room, acknowledging the other guests and the Inn keeper.

Willow was puzzled at the boy's silence, she tried again. "Sir? May I help you?"

Seamus looked up as if startled, "Yes, uh, two coffees please."

Willow wrote the order down on a notepad and looked up again, "Can I can get your names please?" Willow waited patienly for an answer.

The youth replyed," I'm Seamus. And this is Rachel" he said jesturing to the girl, snoring quietly beside him. As if on que she snorted and murmered a few incoherent words in her sleep.

Bartheyamus cleared the table of any clutter and immediately took out a piece of parchment, quill, and an inkwell and began scrawling down wards and glyphs.

Willow couldn't help but smile at the pair as she wrote their names down on the pad as well. "I'll have your orders in a few moments; meanwhile, you can decide on what rooms you'd like to stay in." with that, willow walked back to the table where the other man was sitting.

"Sorry about that," she said, "There have been a lot of customers tonight. I'm going to prepare their orders, and meanwhile you can decide on what room you'd like to stay in as well."

He looked up at her, distracted and handed her the parchment,

"Take this, it's a force spell. Hang it over your door tonight and any evil that comes near it will be repelled."

After handing it to her, he gingerly put his things back in his back with slow, smooth, and concise movements.
He dusted himself off and looked up at her again.

"As for the room, you needn't worry. Put me in the cellar if you so choose. So long as I may rest. I thank you for your hospitality, and you needn't apologize to me."

He give her a sincere smile and lightly chucked before nursing his drink again.

"This is probably the happiest I've been in a long time..." he whispered in an almost inaudible voice.

Willow frowned, "I'm sorry but we don't have cellar for you to stay in. I'm just going to put you on 19B." She took the parchment from him and smirked "I trust the safety of this inn with my own life. I don't need a force spell to protect myself. I've lived by myself all these years and nothing has happened to me as long as I have been within these walls. Handing such a thing to me would normally be considered an offense, but I'll let you of for now." she reached into her pocket and handed him the keys for his room. "Enjoy your stay."

He furrowed his brow in slight offense.

"All I was trying to do was lend a hand, sure, nothing may have happened to you in this time but there is dark here, I know it. If you don't want my help, fine." The male threw up his hands in defense.

"But believe me, bad things happen to good people. I just don't want to see any more dead by my side when there was something I could do about it."

He took the keys and turned to leave but hesitated for a moment.

"Why is it such an offense to you to receive magic anyway?'

Willow paused to think, her eyes darkenked as she stared down at his table, seeming to remember something, "Magic has only ever caused problems for my family and everyone who once lived in this town. I can't escape it, yet I want nothing to do with it."
