The four vampires stood side by side at the entrance to their private rooms. Ana and Rei gave the formal question in unison. "Shall we hunt?" As four sets of fangs slid out of their resting place and into the air, where every nuance of movement, every scent was caught and accounted for, Raidan's reply came. "Yes. Doro, will you cover us until emergence?" He referred to the leaving of their underground stronghold. It was their home, and nothing else. No work was done there. No plotting but that which could not be risked in their working place. After leaving their safehold, they would split three ways. Doro would go to her own feeding grounds, Raidan to his, and Ana and Rei to theirs. It was their most dangerous time of the week, and yet necessary. Unless, of course, there were three conveniently offered humans. After all, Ana and Rei shared the same victim. The only known vampire-types to do so, but the twins were so integrated into each other that it was only natural.

Doro's reply was nearly silent, but all of the predators on edge heard it. "Yes." Doro's hood slipped up over her head, sending her eyes into shadow, producing an image of a wraith-like figure, blue hair standing out starkly against the prevalent black of her cloak, the only part of her face visible being the fangs that protruded hungrily from her mouth, seeking the warmth of a human to bury themselves in. Stepping forward, she began the silent procession of vampires slipping through the burrowing corridors. Riordan fell into step behind her, and the twins filed in last, linking pinkies and stepping to their own private rhythm. As they emerged from the last darkened hall into the dimly lit entryway, Doro flicked a finger and they all came to a complete halt. Riordan's breath of a whisper flushed over their senses. "Rei?" No confirmation of his query was given. The four disappeared from the senses of all living things, and the front door creaked cautiously open, as if someone were peeking outside. Doro's affirmation came, as soft as Raidan's query. "Clear." Rei's invisibility lifted off the group, and Ana supported her sister with an iron grip as they continued out the doors. As the door shut silently, the group halted again. With an audible click that rang in their ears, the door locked itself behind them. No worries- all but Doro had a key hidden in the lining of their cloak, and Doro's ability of telekinesis allowed her to activate the complex mechanism from inside the door.

With a humanly audible tone of voice, Ana and Rei spoke the parting words. "Go now, and hunt." The figures slipped silently off into the night.

I creeped carefully through the dark forest, all my senses on alert. I was deep in vampire territory. I needed a little more edge. I held my left forearm up so that it was level with my chest. My eyes traveled down the intricate symbols drawn expertly down my forearm. Spotting the one I needed, I pressed down on it with my index finger.

A low hiss escaped my lips as the symbol began to writhe, as if alive inside my skin. After a few moments, I felt its effect begin to sink in. I was able to see everything around me with a greater clarity as my eyesight improved. I could hear the leaves shifting in the gentle breeze, animals scurrying into their dens for the night. The wind caressed my skin and I was able to feel the subtle shifting of the soil as my feet shuffled slightly. Forest smells--rotting leaves, insects, animal dung--were sorted out through my newly enhanced nose. Underneath it all there was one more dominant scent: vampires.

Normally this wouldn't bother me--after all, I was in their territory. But this was different. These vampires were moving, the wind carried their scent to me and my ears picked up the subtle sounds of them moving...moving closer.

I hissed in frustration. Every instinct in me told me to run, but I had no idea what this territory was like. I could end up in even worse trouble if I was backed into a corner. Plus, they were vampires. Predators. If I ran, they would give chase. It was in their nature.

Still undecided. I decided to wait it out. Even knowing that they would find me, it seemed better than the other two options. Vampires were powerful, but they weren't animals...

Ana and Rei flitted silently down their chosen path, then abruptly turned of the strip of road to bound silently over several fences before landing by the forest that bordered the neighborhood they claimed. With a sniff in unision, the twins sifted through the scents that were prevalent through the night, discarding those that did not concern them- droppings that littered the forest floor, the wind taking the scent of fresh leaves that no longer used the sun's heat to make food to them, the aging bark, the familiar scent of their own territory. Once through, one scent was scorchingly apparent to them both- the torturing scent of a human.

Feeding time. Only one question remained- would they go together, or one by one? And if so, who would go first? Perhaps that was two questions. Either way, Rei ended it automatically by squeezing tighter the hand that was already in her palm, the hand that, defying rules governing identity and the creation of beings, mirrored her own. Assured of their unity, the two walked forward into the forest, following the burning scent that promised them relief. As they flowed forward, around trees and over stones, the temporary partition between their minds, designed to give them time apart, but mostly to find more joy in re-merging, dissolved, letting the two minds flow together again, rejoicing in their newfound unity, the clarity and assuredness of being one.

As they worked their way forward, they finally came to where their victim could be seen through their eyes and not only scent and hearing. Good. Feeding time would be soon. With that comforting thought, Rei and Ana dissappeared to normal senses and continued towards their prey.

My ears twitched slightly at the sound of an approach. I focused my hearing and realized that there were two of them. They were small, but they were still vampires.

A low hiss escaped my lips as I turned to face where they were coming from. Normally I wouldn't even know that there were vampires here, but my heightened senses gave me more of an advantage than a regular human against the vamps. But...They were vampires. If it came down to a fight, I was screwed...

I needed more of an edge... I folded my arms behind my back and pressed my fingers against a different symbol on each forearm. I felt new strength flow through my body ||super strength|| and it seemed as if everything was going too slow ||super speed||.

I smiled ferally. I wasn't just some puny human... Not anymore. If it came down to it, I could fight.

||Blah. Sorry for the short posts.||

There was a drawback to their un-corporealness. While nothing could touch them, neither could they touch anything else. Therefore, feeding was an impossibility, as least while in their current state. Fortunately, they had other methods of subduing their prey before exposing themselves to danger. Not to mention, they had a...method, of sorts, that they had developed from years of hunting. Only two years, to be sure, but it was long enough. In essence, trap the prey without the prey knowing it was trapped, and to assure it that it would not be "harmed" so as to reduce the amount of struggle. If necessary, brute force was applied.

With minds still meshed, the two released hands and moved to take opposite sides of their prey, an invisible cage of pure energy wove itself around their prey, digging under the soil and producing a faintly burnt smell that permeated the normal fresh scents surrounding them. Rei recognized the symbols of power running up the girl's arm, but had no way of knowing how, or whether, they were used. Ana added "gloves" of energy that would protect her and Rei from the "cage" already constructed and from any physical attack that their prey attempted. As Ana completed, Rei let the invisibility drop away, Ana in front of the girl, who looked to be nearly their age, or at least the age they looked, and Rei behind.

Together, they spoke the words that were designed to help calm their meal, lessening the risk of injury to them while they fed. "We are Ana and Rei. As you likely already know, we are vampires. Perhaps unfortunately for you, we have decided upon you for...food this evening. However, we do not intend to kill, and rarely do. It has not occurred in over two years." A harmless white lie- the only victims had been anemic and poor blood producers. "While we understand why you would attempt to harm us or flee, we do not intend to allow that. We will however, assure you that we will take care of you once we have fed. Needless death is shameful. Before we commence, however, may we ask your name?" Perhaps it was more a threat than reassurance, but at the very least, their prey knew what was going on.

With the close proximity, the promise and scent of a meal, Ana and Rei felt their rationality slipping as instinct began to creep forward, aiming to take control.

I snorted at their little speech. Why did I get the feeling that they were lying through their ******** teeth? Probably because they were. My eyes shifted between the two. They looked about my age, but there was no way to tell how old they really were, just like there was no way to tell how old I really was.

"Yeah, right. I'm supposed to believe that I'll just walk away nice and happy? Bull s**t," I snarled, thinking of all the different ways I could fight them.

There weren't many.

||ooc: What are the vampire legends for this roleplay? Like most say that vamps can't come out at night and are killed by wooden stakes and stuff like that?||

The light of the blue moon . . . .

Damian walked about the rumble of the buildings that had once stood so tall. The wind gently blew, playing with the boy's darkened hair. A sigh escaped his lips as he pulled the scarf abit higher over his face, covering the lower half, not wanting to inhale some sort of toxic substance left from the nuclear war. He was just beyond the limits of the habital sector. Like a few who chose the life of a stray, Damian belonged to no silly group that existed. The battle ws not his, even if it took his family from him. He was no coward of course, just a smart man who wanted to stay out of a pointless battle. They all brought this change upon themselves with war and nuclear weapons. Humanity thought it was all powerful, but nature proved otherwise.

The question phrased by their prey was answered truthfully, with not enough concentration to evade the truth. "There is risk, yes, but we doubt any harm will come to you. We are simply thirsty, tonight." It wasn't their loss. And their wards protected them from not only physical blows, but a certain amount of light as well. Naturally, their greatest weakness was not entirely preventable, but precautions were as good as they could be.

Thought began to disappear between the two as they slowly began the predatory circling of their prey, crimson tinging their eyesight and increased bloodflow making their eyes bloodshot to sharpen their eyesight. The burn in their throats increased to an unbearable inferno, and the circling began to speed.

||OoC:: There are no "legends" persay, but since these vamps are driven by advanced anemia, which causes faintness in sunlight, a full view of the sun would knock them flat on their backs, unconscious, to preserve energy. And, well, a stake through the heart would kill most anyone, don't you agree?||

Doro raised her head to sniff the air. The overpowering scent of pure human blood wafted in on a breeze in the chilly night air. Hmm. Rare. Few people had avoided completely the toxic chemicals that permeated nearly everywhere. Using the night as her cover, Doro ran through the shadows toward the source of the smell, only to be disappointed when she found that her prey was just beyond the limits of their territory. Damn.

Chances were though, that this person had at least a speck of sympathy- by-product of human instinct to better their race. If not, then she would perhaps need a new target. After all, she didn't have enough focus to use either telepathy or mind control at the moment. So, after punching herself several times hard enough to bloody her face, Doro ripped her shirt some, then, as she was losing precious blood, let out an earsplitting shriek and threw herself out of the alley she was in, running haphazardly until she fell flat on her face. If there was any compassion left in the world, she'd have dinner tonight.

As she whimpered softly in the street, Doro wondered slightly at the safety of this tactic, but her slowly leaving consciousness prevented much thought.

The light of the blue moon . . . .

Hearing a shriek, Damian turned and rushed back to the habital sector and soon found a young woman, injured, but from what? "What happened? Are you okay?" He asked, his voice seemed concerned, but the look in his eyes were cautious. His eyes glanced up, looking around for any sign of an attacker. He just hoped that whatever it was, it staued away from them.

Well, she wouldn't have bet on the odds of sympathy were the situation better, but the gamble had paid off. Fire raged in her throat, cutting off any other desires, whether for mind games or some sympathy in return. Flipping to her feet again, Doro let her bloodshot eyes with black irises stare at her prey for a moment through her hood, then flipped the fabric down to flash to his side, a hand forming a band around his forearm, though it was nearly wider than her hand could wrap around. Her fangs extended with a sharp slice of renewed pain at the intensified scent of prey. But, damn, the musk of a true human was intoxicating, holding her in place, stalling her strike. Her hair was given time to catch up with her movement, flowing down her back now and glistening silver in the moonlight. The only word she could think hissed through her bared teeth, "Blood."

Her thinking brain, detached from body, wondered why she didn't move. It would take only a second to rip away the cloth that covered his face and neck and bury her fangs into the wonderful source of nourishment. Ineffectually, she struggled to tell herself to move, dammit. She had to get back before the others, to keep the home safe for them...

What could snap her out of this bloodtrance? If this were to happen every time she hunted a human...perhaps they needed to avoid it. Her body was stone, petrified in place, rigid and unmoving- including the hand that clung to her currently safe prey.

The light of the blue moon . . . .

Damian's eyes were wide with fear, realizing what she was. Strangely, she just seemed to hold onto him, unmoving like a statue. He stood there in confusion before he snapped out of it and tried to pull his arm away, her grasp tight upon him. He pulled the scarf away from his mouth and went to bite her hand, just so she would let go.
