I'm not sure if anybody else has suggested these, might have accidentally missed, but I suggest the Leven Thumps series by Obert Skye. It will include five books when finished.

The 39 Clues by Rick Riordan. The first book is out and it is going to be a total of ten books, they come with cards so you can join the hunt as well on the website.
Evil Genuis and The Genuis Squad by Catherine Jinks is also another good one.

Forrest Gump... now bear with me...

Yes I feel this fits well into fantasy, while it may not be high fantasy it is fantasy none the less. I enjoyed the movie, but let me tell you this book blew my mind. I have never read a book before that has both made me laugh, and think as hard as this book has.

Picking this book up at the half price book store I knew from the first line this was going to be nothing like the move. I am sure you all remember the "life is like a box of chocolats" line right. Well here is the first sentence of the book... Let me say this: bein a idiot is no box of chocolates. .

I will state out of many books I have ready this year this tops the list.

The Saga of Plioecen Exile and The Galactic Milieu Trilogy, both by Julian May. Exellent series, very fun. They're older -- Plliocene books were out in the 80s, Milieu in the 90s -- so you might have to ILL them.

Waking the Moon, Black Light, and Winterlong by Elizabeth Hand (The sequels to Winterlong just aren't as good).

The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe.

Kiyome the Dragon
Leavaros
I just hope Jordan finishes his series before he croaks.... stare
-LD

How old is he? To be worried about an author passing means he must be quiet old...or just plain unhealthy! xp

~Kiyo

He died in 2007, or 2006. His brother, I believe, is finishing the series.
