Nestled in the long grasses of Nohara no Kuni, a small country south of Kiri no Kuni, Noharagakure no Sato is a miniscule shinobi village which works to preserve the order of the plains it protects. Windmills dot the fields around the walled village, and the peace they inspire brings traders and merchants from far and wide to congregate and hawk their wares in an otherwise isolated part of the world.

This openess and hospitality has attracted envy from some of the larger countries around and Noharagakure has known its share of conflict in the past, especially from Kiri no Kuni which lies nearest its north-eastern border. To this end, a tragedy as substancial as the betrayal that has taken place in recent weeks has never before befallen Noharagakure's plains.

To understand a plight, however, one must first understand the circumstances surrounding it. Noharagakure no Sato has, for quite some time, fallen upon hard times finding missions for its shinobi to complete. The village's reputation as a political power was begining to wane without anything to prove itself with, and internal unrest was begining to compromise the village's own cooperation. It goes without saying, then, that when an S-Rank mission was presented to the Council, the entire village got involved to prove Noharagakure's skill to the world again. Three of the four village elders, as well as most of the high ranking shinobi, left to accomplish the mission with as much style and honor as could be afforded of a ninja village.

No one returned.

The missing shinobi were found dead shortly after suspicions had started drifting among the villagers to that effect. The village fell into turmoil and only a single elder remained to protect it. Who had ambushed and murdered so many powerful shinobi? Noharagakure no Sato entered its darkest hour at that time and emergency summons for any eligible people to undergo shinobi training to help fill the emptied ranks. Three new elders were hastily chosen from the village and everyone's hearts were combined under the new obligation that the village had.

Retaliation must be brought to the murderers who killed so many.
