Yes, we already know that Time Stop is ridiculous. That's not a broken character concept. It's just another day at the office for a high-level mage.

I forget the exact quote, or who said it, but it went something like this:

"High-level fighters get to play the same game the've always been playing. This game can be called D&D. High-level mages get to play the all-new games of Rocket Laucher Tag and "Lets Bone Reality Up The Backside" and no one else is allowed to play."

I wasn't trying to introduce a broken character concept. Just an overpowered spell (like most 9th lvl spells are). That's just the reality of D&D though. To keep up at higher levels you just need to be able to throw spells around.

I had a lot of fun as an Elan psion/metamind ended up being the tank for the party

Pun-Pun.

For those who don't know Pun-Pun, he is a level 12 Kobold Psion who can infinitely raise his base stats due to how certain spells and his familiar work.

Monk + Vow of Poverty + Fist of the Forest + Forsaker.

"I don't have any items, and now, neither do you!"
Best way through a maze evar: An 8th level (Pathfinder) druid with earth elemental shape shift going. Earth glide FTW.

My DM sayd he's going to have to think of a way to defend against it...

Okay, Pun-Pun's been brought up.

So, anyone heard of the Jumplomat and Locate City Nuke?

Yes, as a matter of fact I have.

The Jumplomat uses the Exemplar class, and simply replaces things like Diplomacy checks with Jump checks. Because the Exemplar is crazy like that. Another name for the build is The Jumplomancer.

And the Locate City Nuke is a bit of a loose interpretation of a few rules. What it does is use a combination of metamagic feats (Explosive Spell, to name one) to deal ridiculous amounts of damage to any creature in the spell radius.

The most broken character i've encountered was my friend jusin's monk. It only took two feats to make it broken, Sacred Vow, and Vow of Poverty both from book of Exalted Deads it was pure insanity. His AC went through the roof not to mention every thing else he got from it. The only thing he couldn't do was use masterwork or magical weapons but at that point he didn't even need them. Needless to say that book was banned from that point on.

Why does everybody insist on saying the VoP is best on a Monk? It is much better suited for Sorcerers and Druids. Hell, with any good DM, it is bad for a Monk, since it pretty much restricts a Monk to doing 1 job really well and being completely unable to do anything else.

I agree. At higher lvls a VoP monk can't even hope to stand up against an equal lvl character with magic items appropriate for his lvl. Orrrrrrrr a Wizard with no items of the same lvl XD

Seriously you guys, it just seems nifty. It's not that great in the scope of things. I think that if DMs ban entire books they just lack the ability to work around the things that they think are ruining their games. If the characters are too strong, make the encounters more difficult. End of story.

Personal favorite broken character: The Omnificer a.k.a. The Pun-Pun Killer

Actually I played a minotaur one time, who by the way was not overpowered, especially since like the first 7 or 8 levels are monstrous huminoid, so even though it was a decently high level campaign, i had only 2 class levels, in barbarian (low intelligence and wisdom obviously makes for good rping...never new as it was my first time not being a magically classed character, and being a non-standard race) but the dm insisted on granting the minotaur so many things (such as coffe someohow made my minotaur gain 1 intelligence per city, and every time our drow wizard drank it...it took one away...oh and dont ask about the coffee, the dm insisted we had coffee....) but by the end of the campaign, my minotaur had to say the least, 'odd' weaponry, stats not ment for barbarians, and a lawful good alighnment...meaning i was a 4rth level barbarian, and a...2nd level...knight...yeah...odd...but i must say since it was a goof campaign, i never used that character again...
Wizard 9/Binder 1/Anima Mage 10

Important Feats: Extend Spell, Persistent spell.

The Vestige Metamagic class feature allows you to spontaneously apply any metamagic feat you know to any spell you're going to cast with no adjustment to casting time or spell level.

The Vestige Casting class feature allows you to once per day cast a spell as an immediate action.

On top of having the spells known of a 19th level wizard, you're effectively a 10th level binder which is pretty fun, too.

Big Trick: Learn Time Stop, and memorize it once. Whenever someone attacks you, use vestige casting, and a use of vestige metamagic to apply persistent spell to Time Stop. Time Stops for 24 hours, giving you plenty of time to move out of the way of whatever was swinging at you, not to mention REST and REGAIN YOUR SPELLS and DAILY USES OF CLASS FEATURES.

This build allows you to stop time for 24 hours once per round as an immediate action. Best part--outside of an antimagic field, this combo CAN'T BE COUNTERED because it's cast faster than a quickened spell.

This is by far the strongest build I've ever written up. I'd never play it, though, because it's far too broken. But do I... Do I win?

Sources used: PHB, Complete Arcane, Tome of Magic.

Edit: Looks like time stop was already brought up. Whoops, my bad.

I second that.
My mind flayer lich wizard. It's amazing how high you can get your stats with a simple combination of magic items and spells. When wearing my full arsenal of wondrous items and weapons, my INT was 50 and everything else was over 42. I knew pretty much every spell in the Player's Handbook and kept a bandolier full of metamagic rods so that all of my attack spells would be quickened and maximized, or maximized and empowered.
