This will never be a thing. There are too many non-creative people that are too lazy to hunt through items and put an outfit together themselves who find it much easier to copy.

To those who ask nicely about a single item about my avatar I am happy to tell them. but those asking to know what I'm wearing I add them to the ignored list. My blood red avatars are special, unique, and I wont have people copy my look.
I like this idea, just for the sole thing as to convenience. Also there have been many times I see someone'e siggy saying DONT ASK ME ABOUT WHAT IM WEARING lol
I dont think you should be concerned about someone saying they are you, since your account is older and has the name all your friends know.
As for copying...if someone really wants to copy you they will no matter how hard/easy it is.

I agree the ability to hide lists shouldn't be a thing.

If someone honestly wants to know what particular item I've got on at the moment, who am I to stop them from doing so? I won't deny them the answer if they want to contact me directly, but still, I'd rather not make it a chore for them to find out what an item is. When it comes to pittances of pixels that everyone has access to, I've got nothing to hide, and neither do they.

Firebreathing Kitten

I would like the convenience of it, especially since I'm often too shy to ask what someone is wearing. sweatdrop I keep thinking I'll bother them, since I generally back away from asking people and then just never find the item.

Or you could just PM the person and ask them what they're wearing. 3nodding

I've seen threads about people copying their avis in an attempt to steal their identity because their equipped list was showing. I've never had to deal with such an issue, but I sure as hell don't want that to start because of people like you. Hell, I saw one last month where a copycat had an almost identical avi to someone in CB, but couldn't finish it BECAUSE their equip list was hidden. If you're that curious, PM them. If they don't reply, then you're s**t out of luck; Don't try to pry it from them. Stop forcing us to not be private for your personal benefit, because this thread is like taking a chainsaw to our locked closet door when if you ask us just may open the door.
Holy ********, I'm sick of this demand. It's intrusive and people like you need to get a grip and realize not everyone is an open book, for good reason especially.

I don't feel it's necessary to show all equipped lists. People have their reasons for wanting their list hidden. I understand it can be inconvenient, but they don't want it available and I'm not entitled to it. At the same time I can also understand how it would be helpful, but we have other ways of identifying items. You can ask the user, or anyone else on site for that matter. Sometimes I can still manage to find items even when searching in the market. With tags getting updated soon, it'll hopefully be easier in the future. It takes time, but it's doable and wouldn't upset others like taking away the option would.

I personally have my equipped list open because I don't really mind if people can see what I'm wearing. I thankfully haven't had a bad experience with this like others have, but if I ever do I'd like the option of being able to stop it from happening. It's an option people are allowed to have and I prefer that everyone have a choice.

Fatcat

I never understood why Gaia introduced the option to hide equipped lists in the first place, to be honest.

I would love it if they got rid of it as it's just incredibly frustrating all round.

Sweet Spook

Both sides make compelling arguments but out of personal experiences and my own anxiety issues I would prefer to keep the option to keep my list hidden for my own piece of mind. While I see the benefits of disabling hiding ones' equipped list I still believe it is a personal choice and shouldn't be tampered with. It's true if a user is serious about copying you they'll find a way but I like the slight assurance turning off my list provides me.

Some people have stalkers and harassers who might copy them because they know it bothers the person. Some people like me have a high level of paranoia and aren't comfortable with people copying them even for innocent reasons. You can say all you want about someone leaving the site if they have such issues but the fact remains that many still want to enjoy the site, I see no harm in allowing the feature to stay given others have alternative ways to find out an avatars items.

I don't mind being asked about items on my avatar as long as you're not asking for the full list. My PMs are always on, I'm not scary or as intimidating as people sometimes say I am and I will happily tell you what select items you're curious about that I'm wearing. Heck, I'll even tell you the pose if it's a hidden one. I don't mind curious people but my fear of people copying my avatars (As all of my current ones are based off OCs one of whom was very closely copied on Gaia before in a rp) is why I prefer my list turned off.

The disabled item list for me is a choice, a sort of small assurance that my stalker exes (Or just people who dislike me) will not decide to one day make a mule and copy my avatars and/or try to defame me in the process. I see what OP is getting at, I honestly do but I hope this feature does not go away for the sake of those who have the types of issues expressed in this thread by others.

If you want it removed so badly why not make it a goldsink, say 100k or more for those who want to hide it since one can make 100k easily by using the Daily Chance. I would have no problem paying Gaia Gold to keep my list hidden. OP would get the lists opened and those who want theirs hidden get to keep it hidden for a small fee. That would be the only way I'd see an idea like this working out to be honest unless it's left unchanged.

Destructive Reveler

I keep my list view-able and have been frustrated when people have them blocked and I want to know what some incredible item they are wearing. However I understand why some people have it blocked because several people will simply copy an avatar instead of making their own and plenty of people (when zOMG! was playable) would try to friend you (happened on my mule almost everyday until I stopped random friend requests) because they saw what you were wearing thought you were rich and would give them things.

The only thing I take issue with is when I ask nicely and people will be rude back. I could understand if someone is pestering you often or asking for every item you have equipped. Some people are nice and will tell you but others will be rude to you if you ask them what they have equipped.

Doll

I would be all okay with it.
Lots of the time, I'm wondering about an Item and feel all frustrated if someone hides it.
And I don't care if someone would steal my outfit Ideas? Then I could be like 'hey Twin, lets meet up in towns and take pics' you know
Sometimes I ask a person, but you know, some almighty snobby avatar talk forum users are never answering. I hate it.

I'd be happy to see the feature go. It's hella frustrating to see an item on someone and try to find out what it is only to see that they blocked item viewing. And then see another person wearing it, and they have it blocked. And then the next person, and the next person.

I never feel like trying to contact the person to see what an item is. It's too much of a bother for both parties. I leave my list open for that reason, so people don't have to go out of their way to find out the name of an item. They want to copy me? Ok. I'm not going to die over it. I really don't get why people are so super serious over these avatars.

I've hated that option since it was implemented. I always see items that I like and they always have it hidden so I can't quickly just see what it is, I have to message the user and ask them. While it's a perfectly reasonable option, it's a little inconvenient.

I'd rather quickly see what the person is wearing rather than go through the trouble of messaging someone.

I'm against this purely because it's a choice for the individual and shouldn't be removed just because a few people dislike it. If you want to know then ask, it's not a difficult thing to do.

A lot of my friends and I make a good amount of cosplay avis, but we never enter the arenas to try to get prizes or noticed for them. We just love making them.
Working and questing to make a decent cosplay is satisfying.

Personally I don't want people to copy my cosplays that I worked hard on just to enter it into the arena trying to win.
I'd say most of my friends hide theirs for the same reason.

I don't mind when people ask what a specific item I'm wearing is. Just not my whole list.
If I can't find an item myself, I'll PM the user wearing it asking what it is. 90% of the time they reply back and are pretty nice about it.

People should be able to hide their list if they want to.
-shrug- I've been able to find every item I've looked for. Either by asking or hunting it down myself (some take time) But it's not like you wont ever be able to find it. You just have to actually look.
