Well before that, people just didn't connect with wizards. The only wizard pretty much known was Merlin. So, that's what I meant by revolutionary; popularizing an idea so under the radar.

It wasn't under the radar at all. All she really did was sub in the term "wizard" for "witch" and "warlock" and tweaked a handful of other things in a much older, already popular formula. Yes, she is very clever, but in a marketing sense -- combining the right, pre-existing elements to produce a more appealing product -- rather than in an authorship sense. Nothing about Harry Potter is new or innovative; it's just that a bunch of popular elements have been stuck together in an even more appealing way.

As for dressing up? She's not actually very distinctive. You could get a shoulder-length ashy-blonde wig, but I can think of no way (other than surgery, and even that mightn't work) to make yourself instantly recognisable as her. Either, accept you're going to have to keep explaining, or pick someone more distinctive. : (

Well, I lol'd xd

Friendly Bookworm

Find an author picture and try to recreate what she is wearing. Maybe add a small Harry Potter trinket like a necklace, bracelet... maybe even a scarf so that it's easy to identify that maybe you are going as J.K. Rowling. And... can't be an author without the book itself. Use the first book.

Overall, blond straight hair to the shoulders, black rimmed glasses at times, she likes to wear blacks, whites, reds, and blues. She also has a taste in style such as print shirts or floral dresses because she is a modern author.

Take a Google search and look around.

Yes, that is true, but I believe that she made it a lot more popular of an idea, to a lot of people.
