Just keep doing salt soaks, you'll be fine. The only thing that might happen is that you'll get a little bump around the piercing due to the movement (the piercing being "jerked" out). They're stubborn and annoying, but you can get rid of them.

But wait, you used contact solution to clean your piercing? Or soap and water? I don't think either of those are ideal for cleaning body jewelry.

Yeah, there is a small bump next to the piercing but it's already starting to look better.

And yeah, I was told to use contact solution and I was uneasy about it but I googled it and tons of people were saying "i've always used contact solution and never had a problem, it's just saline which is basically the same thing they'd give you in a shop" so I was like okay whatever, the only reason I used soap and water was because I was out in public and didn't have anything else so I figured it would be better than nothing. gonk Thanks though, I feel a lot better now.

Ahh, I gotcha. No it's true, soap and water is def better than nothing. Make due with what ya got :} .

I hope it heals up nicely! If your bump ends up being really stubborn (like mine was) you can shoot me a p.m. I tried like 5 different treatments until it finally started shrinking.

The lump is almost assuredly hypertrophic scarring, or HT scarring for short. It's most commonly caused by trauma and inappropriate aftercare. Try warm chamomile tea bag soaks to start with. Do this 2 times a day for about 5-10 minutes each time. This method may take several weeks to show effect, but it is the gentlest method. Other methods are harsher and not recommended until the fistula closes completely

You are going to the WRONG shop if they are telling you to clean with contact solution and offering a re-pierce for $10.

******** that. Next time you're in, if you ever go back, ask to see your piercer's license, and ask if he's a member of the APP (Google that).

If he doesn't have a license, file a legal complaint about his operating without a license. Just sayin'.

For yourself...

Go to a better shop, ask them to change the jewelry to something higher quality because I don't doubt it's low-quality jewelry.

But FIRST, if you have a bump or bubble coming up, here's what you can do. use tweezers or something else metal that you have cleaned with isopropyl alcohol (I understand it's not perfect but it's as clean as you'll get at home), pinch or poke the bubble open so that blood and anything else in it can be drained. After doing this, stick your nose down into a shot glass (or other glass if you want bigger) full of a warm sea-salt soak. If you don't know what that is, Google that s**t.

Blow bubbles with your nostrils into the sea salt soak. This will help circulate the soak through the fistula (hole) of the piercing.

Do this once, maybe twice a day until it goes away.

Good luck!

PS. If anyone says that this is bad advice to pop the bubble, so be it. BUT it has to drain out somehow. I got kicked in the face when my (now retired) nose piercing was less than 2 months old. This bump/bubble surfaced, and this is what I did. It fixed the problem.

The problem with "popping the bubble" is that it's not always full of fluid. If it's HT scarring, which I'm willing to bet my proverbial left nut that it is, it's scar tissue, soft tissue, but still tissue. Meaning it's not a blister, which is fluid trapped under the skin that you can pop with a pin and relieve. It's layers and layers of skin, making it solid material but still soft and squishy. By popping it or scraping it or picking it off, you're just exposing it to potentially infection-causing bacteria, or at least irritation-causing at best, probably with dirty fingers or tools. You're also going to make any resulting scar marks or tissue left behind worse. For the same reason that you don't poke or pop zits, because they leave scar marks behind, you shouldn't be scraping off, popping, or otherwise irritating HT scarring, it'll just make it worse.

There are 3 main treatments for HT scarring: tea tree oil applications, aspirin pastes, and chamomile tea bag soaks. Chamomile tea bag soaks are the gentlest of the three treatments, but I've also found them to sometimes be completely ineffective, depending on the person and the scar tissues' age and severity. Aspirin pastes and tea tree oil applications are much harsher on the skin and shouldn't be used on new piercings or freshly opened or irritated skin, but they are effective on healed piercings over a long enough time span. Frequently, just removing jewelry can reduce or even eliminate HT scarring altogether, since it's frequently caused by irritation. Remove the irritation, namely the jewelry in the piercing, and it goes away as the fistula heals. But if one wants to keep their piercing, they can attempt one of the three main treatments as well as some other troubleshooting processes like changing jewelry style and material, removing outside irritation factors, changing up cleaning routines, etc.

He had his license framed on the wall, and yes he is a member of APP. I was looking around the room while waiting for him to set up and I saw all his legal paperwork stuff framed. I also did make sure I saw him take out a clean needle and all that. The shop was really clean and nice, soooo much nicer than a lot that I'd checked out, I'm really surprised he doesn't seem to know piercing aftercare too well. I'm pretty disappointed, it was a really great shop other than that.

Also, I'm pretty sure the jewelry is pretty high quality. I get really bad allergic reactions to most jewelry but this hasn't caused any problems other than what I posted. I would've been having a reaction by now if it weren't something good. It happens in my ears ALL the time after only having earrings in for a short amount of time, and I've even had reactions on my face from sleeping with a necklace on. I'm pretty sure it's good quality.

Also, I'm not popping the bubble/bump. I just am not about picking or popping things on my face. I don't want to risk it leaving a scar or getting infected. If it gets worse, I'll go to a doctor and see if they think it needs to be drained or not because they'll be able to do it properly. It's gone down a lot though, I honestly don't even think it's there anymore to be honest. Thanks for your advice, though!!

I've been doing the sea salt soaks and it's almost completely gone already, but I'll do the chamomile, too.

Thank you!!
