            GUYS.
            GUYS.
            I DID IT FFFFF.
I just hatched a shiny trapinch! :'D Belladona was amazing enough to give me a japanese ditto, which works wonders. Before, I was tapping 300-400 times - this trapinch took only 82 (65 or so before that but I screwed up and restarted just in case).

            BelIadonna

I have terrible problems with numbers, so I'm really liable to spacing out - one reason why doing big taps is NOT a good idea for me though haha. I'm just resorting to counting along out loud for now, but I'll definitely note them down if I have to do anything big in the future.
Strangely enough, I did have the coin flip app open accidentally when I flew over, not thinking, but it doesn't seem to have affected the outcome.
Oh man, thanks for all the edits and the helps. I think I'll leave off anything harder until later, a lot of the more complicated features kind of do my head in. And thank you again for the ditto! :'D He works wonders.

            Tama_Mantic

Oh man, I can image that anybody who looks at this thread with no idea of the acronyms is going to go "abahbahwaaa---? .___."
But yeah, the smogon link is super helpful. In a nutshell, an SID (Secret ID) is a special number that you need to RNG shinies, and RNG (random number generation I think it stands for?) is a way to abuse the in game mechanics, forcing it to hatch you a shiny! :')

            +Karvanoppa+

It's good to know that you haven't had any problems with the time... I can hard reset, get into the game and catch a pokemon in around a minute now, but sometimes those stupid magikarp pop up at like, level 12 (I swear - level 81 lead pokemon, and I get a level 12 magikarp, what the hell).
yeah, i was looking through the thread going, "....whaaa....?" xD

and yes, that link was rather helpful to me, ^^ now i unbderstand the jitst of it~
..though does your DS have to be connected to your computer or something? o.o

Nope! I don't assume to know how it works because I'm a terrible programmer. I just chalk it up to the magic of RNG. 8D All you need is the software, RNG Reporter, and to follow the instructions.

As well as the Smogon link, I found this to be the most helpful visual tutorial, if you're ever interested in figuring it out.

Congrats....I'm thinking about posting my lowest tap/flip for a shiny....
It was awesome I totally deserve bragging rights! xd
*cough* 2 taps 4 flips *cough*
I would really suggest getting familiar with the time finder application on the RNG reporter...it's saved my a** so many times.
Also I'm sorry I have to correct you...it's random number generator.
The seed is the random number generated by the game when you start it. sweatdrop
I'm kinda embarrassed to say what number I always space out at. gonk
Anways regardless, I always enter multiples of 10 into the calculator whenever I'm watching TV or talking with someone so I don't mess up. 3nodding
Oh it's good that having the coin flip app open doesn't affect your outcome,
sadly it affects mine so I thought I'd just throw that in there just in case.

Ahh! I just hatched a shiny Charmander! Looks like I've got the hang of it now. :'D

And damn Bella, I wish I could get taps that low. .___. How do you even get them down to that?
Oh, I was also meaning to ask you, since you're so familiar with RNG Reporter - I'm assuming it's required that I have to catch a level 50+ pokemon every time I want to rng something? Can I reuse the same magikarp I have and just reset the taps? I've heard somewhere that you can but somehow it's a more advanced procedure? //feels like such a noob
I'll probably attempt to breed non-shinies with good natures and IVs soon, since it's such a pain to sit waiting for that one pokemon you want! So I'll learn about the time finder then, I suppose.

To answer your first question, magic! 8D
You don't always have to have a level 50+ pokemon, sometimes you can catch a low level pokemon and use an IV checker to find the IVs and input that into the RNG reporter.
You can also use an AR hack that let's you see the IVs of the caught pokemon and input that data into the RNG reporter.
Since I've just started using the RNG reporter this month I'm still testing out a few things.
So far I've heard receiving an egg from the daycare man...and rejecting an egg increases the PID by one.
As of right now...I don't how to obtain two shinies without hard reseting the game.
Since the PID looks like it's hex format...I need to learn how to count in hex format to find out what +1 to the current PID would be.
I'll be working with the RNG reporter more on my hiatus so I'll be sure to give you more advice once I get back. 3nodding

I don't see why taking over a minute or so would effect it being shiny.
I used an under leveled Scyther and Scizor to False Swipe things to 1 HP and caught things with Net Balls and it still worked fine.

You're not setting IVs, are you? That was my problem for a while. Don't set IVs or nature. Save before you grab the egg and then hatch it. If it's not the nature you wanted, then reset and grab the egg again and re hatch. (should work out that way. It's what I was told)

It's okay, I've since been able to hatch a couple of shinies. I think it was just me messing up in different minuscule ways each time I attempted it. And no I wasn't attempting to RNG natures then.... but I am now. xD; //edits first post with new questions lmao
So we'll see how that goes.

But yeah the amount of time it takes to catch the pokemon doesn't seem to affect it that much. I'm fishing off the resort area with a lv 80+ pokemon and often I get underlevel magikarps popping up and have to refish a good few times. Hasn't made any difference so far.

It's weird, last night I was getting low frames and would only have to tap 60 to 80 times.
But tonight, they're all over 200. And that's with the foreign ditto. And I've tried to hatch some shiny ponytas for practice and so far nothing has worked. Hrm. My own problem I'm sure, it's just a little odd.
It seems that I can use AR hacks without an actual AR - I never noticed before but I can set cheats for pokemon, haha. If I can figure out how to get them to work I'll use them to check for IVs and fast hatch eggs - that might make learning how to RNG easier.

Actually, I took what you said about the Time Finder to heart and started reading about it. And it sounds amazing, but I'm having trouble calibrating my seconds and delay. I edited my first post asking for help on it, and since you seem pretty experienced with it (even if you've only been using it for a month :B ) maybe you could look over it and give me some advice? <3

Ok here's what I do...
I set the time on the DS clock, as soon as I see the clock reset I turn off my DS, then turn it back on fast, mash the "A" button a lot, and then I catch a pokemon.
Try doing that for the calibration phase to obtain your seconds.
After you get the calibration down to the second then try working on your delays.
Make sure to reset the DS clock every time, back to the minute and hour you first set it to.
(because you'll be doing this a lot when you start using the time finder)

EDIT: I just read the first page in entirety....
If you can't soft reset then all the advice I can give you is, make sure to choose platinum from the list really fast. xD
