Why Do Almost All J-Rock Singers Sound Alike?

um..I think when the title said "sound alike" i'm pretty sure it's talking about the voice, not music type.
All of these music/bands that others mention are under J-Rock category, maybe their songs have the same style but I don't think the voice is the same.
I don't listen to J-Rock much but as somebody has posted before, if u like a band's music, you can identify their voice/

if you would've really read my post, you would see that that post was meant to one person in particular and not the whole thread? =) when i talked about music, it was a response to the person who wrote:

Well, they're all put into the JROCK category because of the way they sound.....

i wanted to tell this person that Jrock is about the music type and sound, not the voice.
of course i know this thread was for the voice..=_= i was the one who said if you liked a band, you'll recognize the voice for sure xD

The music type and sound would have to be them same in order for them to fit under the same category (J-Rock).

the person who talked about them sounding alike so that's why they're in the jrock category is wrong then because we're supposed to be talking about voice here and jrock is about the music sound in general ._.

i think that it doesnt matter because there will always b ppl who say the voices sound the same, the music type sounds the same, and it's boring. People will always say that even tho i STRONGLY disagree. anyways..... u love ueda?! ...do u love jin and kame as well???

the accent makes is sound sort of familular in amatur bands
its the exact same thing with american bands and austalian.

also the lack of listening a certain language, you don't judge the piches and stuff, just how there accent goes.

TM Revolution sounds different from Gackt voice wise, as well as Antic Cafe. They all really don't sound like each other voice wise.

well, it has to have something to do with that whole japanese accent thing. in japan they lay it on pretty thick, especially the girls.

but yeah, most of the girls i hear that aren't pro wrestlers (seriously) sound almost pretty much the same. Besides Minoru Yui (usually just called Yui) or Utada Hikaru.

But there are a lot of bands with guy singers that sounds different.
some of the best are Deathgaze, D'espairs Ray, D, kra, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Vidoll, and Gazette. ...OH! AND MIYAVI!!!!!!!!!!!! rofl

As much as people love to rag on Gackt, he CAN hit a few different notes then most visual kei singers, but in general he still doesn't have enough talent to be "unique."

who says you have to have talent to be unique? unique means that there arent many jrockers with the same style as him. and who are you to say that Gackt doesnt have talent?? thats just your opinion! is someone so successful as Gackt likely to be talentless?

Being unique IS what makes someone considered "talented." Being a very good singer may take a lot of SKILL, but a unique good singer has TALENT.

(Also note that when I say "unique" I am not including rebellious forms of vocals; so people who just have weird sounding voices like Miyavi are not what I'm talking about).

And your last sentence is rediculous - success =/= talent, if you don't believe me, watch MTV. Also, I'm not saying Gackt is terrible (I'm a fan anyway), you sound similar to many other voices and still not be completely awful at what you do.

so i agree that they are related, but you don't have to have one to be the other. >__>
gackt is unique, have u ever been to a jrock concert which lasts 3 hours, has dancing cats, acrobatics and melodious tunes all in the same show? his style is incredibly unique. And he can play almost any instrument, i'd say thats talent no?

you are basically saying what i said (i was saying success =/= talent, you are saying uniqueness =/= talent). also i would agree that ppl played on mtv arent talented, but i dont think you can really compare american pop to jrock, if i was to watch music channels in japan im pretty sure every pv i saw would be amazing/ full of talent.

As to an answer to the original question, I agree that it may be just the way certain bands/singers sing.

Personally, I think some bands do sound the same... But when listened to carefully, it's not all the same. I used to think that Shou (Alice Nine) and Ruki (GazettE) sounded the same, but after listening carefully, Shou's voice has a certain... sound that is different from Ruki's.

But Keiyuu (Kra) and Miyavi's voices are definitely different from normal Visual Kei bands. A LOT different xd
