Devil May Cry 5: WHY THE HELL DOES DANTE HAVE BLACK HAIR?

I hate the new appearance of my once future husband, Dante.
But in all honesty, it won't stop me from at least trying the game out.

I don't care all that much that he looks different. I care that it's a reboot. I care that it's being developed by Ninja Theory. I care that there are too many questions of the old series that still need to be answered.

I hate it.

I'll give it a rent though. If it ends up sucking hard, well, then they'll realize the mistake they made.

but there is no gaurantee those questions could be answered while maintaining any sort of continuity... for the simple fact that there were simply too many different people working on it in the end. The original director and designer had nothing to do with the second game, the fourth at most had basic framework if anything he had been involved in... so we are looking at at least 3 people already writing the story which is why there were still so many questions and not everything meshed up properly.

a reboot was actually the most viable choice from a pure logic standpoint if the goal is to keep the story intact and consistent in terms of allowing for future games.

back on topic though

I think people are obsessing over a cosmetic shift and then making a lot of assumptions.... when the simple truth is we have not seen any game-play, we have a single blurb from the devs about the story, and Dante says all of one word in the trailer.... so there is no actual evidence that anything outside his look has changed. This could still be the game we all enjoyed just with a different look.

it's possible that dante had black hair before white hair, and the anime was made after the games

Because they are.... was confirmed by Ninja Theory before the trailer was even shown

Also could be due to the current inconsistencies in the franchise (the director and creator only worked on DMC and DMC3 directly and at best only created frame work for DMC4 of the others... he also quit Capcom before the 4th game was actually made)

So between them wanting more of a western feel (which Capcom said a while ago and is why they are having Ninja Theory develop DmC) and wanting to set up so they can continue making more games for the franchise without making things overly complicated story wise...it really is a fairly logical decision on their part.

again... series longevity.... making the story more convoluted and inconsistent actually limits what they can do long term.... a reboot on the other hand allows them to fix that issue
