Update- With 2020 over halfway done, I'm shifting my focus from items lost in the avi builder to archiving astras before their animated poses are gone for good. As seen with the original versions of Pistolera's bonus poses and Black Tonfa, it's entirely too easy to have items drop off of the face of the planet with no record of their existence, and I would hate to lose evidence of the existence of literal hundreds of items (yes, we still have their inanimate poses, but for several items, not only do they have multiple secret poses that are only visible with animations, but many of these have visual effects that are totally different from the still pose).

this would be a godsend! i honestly wish that some astra items could have multiple still shots of the animation b/c on items like sparkles, especially the Star Siblings' Sparkle, the timing affects the placements of sparkles or they cover different parts of the avatar. (honestly, this specific item takes up far too much of my brain space...)

sadly, with flash, a lot of the falling glitter/cherry blossom items are actually randomized (there was another post that explained it better that i cant find atm that summed it up with 'each petal could have a randomly-generated x and y location, combined with a randomized fall time, to give it a truly organic look). my hope is that, with the archived images, artists can eventually reconstruct gifs that look similar enough to the astras to be equipped again (similar to the currently-existing system for kin companions!). i can't think of anything to replicate the tint from bloodstain/valentine's/inversion, however sad

but yeah, single poses of each of the randomized items (ie: falling bread, falling junk food, etc) would be amazing!

Another odd item change - If you remember the old Sin And BOO halloween war game years ago where whatever team you went on gave you a soulbound skin. For some reason, the BOO ones got taken off soulbound many years later after complaints but the Sin ones were still locked if I recall. I hate that I can't transfer my old Sin skin over because it was so nice.

I'm sad the astras are disabled on forums and avatar dressup now, though. I love those things.

1. thank you very much! i've considered tossing this thread over to the lost media wiki to see what they could do with it, if anything, since there's only so much i can do on my end. i just remember finding snakes on an avatar on someone's wishlist, going 'didnt someone have the mp link bookmarked?' and just spiraling from there redface

2. yep! i covered it in detail in the 'changed' section, mainly wanted to keep the halo and horns together since they were most likely meant to be a combo deal

DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW BADLY I MISS THE SIN SKIN, I HAD IT BUT NOW ITS PERMALOCKED ON AN OLD ACCOUNT. the BOO one wasn't actually released at all, after the event it just disappeared into the ether, and was released for one of the gaiaversary events (which caused its own controversy, since a lot of people [myself included] felt that if the BOO skin was released, then the SIN one should have been unsoulbound). i've been trying to find the MP link for it for ages, if you find it let me know emotion_kirakira

hey everyone, sorry for going kind of AWOL. earlier this month, my grandfather passed away, and almost exactly a week later i was called back to work. i've done all i can with archiving astras, but with work starting up again, i probably won't be able to archive astras further/search for lost items/keep pushing the paper thread as hard as i normally did before, and honestly right now w/ the loss of my grandfather, i don't have the energy to anyways. thank you all for your patience and understanding ♥

so i wanted to stay away for a bit, but i made a pretty interesting discovery... does anybody know what these games would have been used for? normally i wouldn't post potentially unreleased games, but with it being at a publicly-accessible link and flash going down in less than 4 months anyways, i figured it would be alright.

also, even more excellent news! i've found a way to download ALL of the .swf files for astras (even on items that i don't own), so all astras can now be properly saved. all that's left is to figure out how to find a website that can host .swf files so that they can be properly stored digitally. thank you all for your help!

sorry to spam this thread, but i've just made a HUGE discovery- there was going to be a flower update as well! all of the related images were deleted, so i'll have to work a bit of ~magic~ to get all the images posted, but that should be done by tonight!

you want an optimus prime buddy? you've got an optimus prime buddy! all images except for the lost poses from pistolera, psionica, and the lost tektek items have been recovered, screenshotted, and uploaded. i'm currently on the road, but once i get home i'll test and see if the method i used to recover the lost items can also be used to recover the lost poses from tonfa stick.

i tested it and... the situation is most likely even dumber than i thought emotion_facepalm

from what i can see, whatever artist was in charge of releasing black tonfa just copy/pasted the image links from the old black tonfa, and later on down the road, someone else deleted the old black tonfa's images from the site to (presumably) keep people from finding the old black tonfa listing. when that happened, it also deleted the images from the new black tonfa too, and as said images weren't backed up (this was around the same time the image server change was happening), a whole item would have literally been erased forever (the only reason we have the few poses that we DO have is because one artist was willing to repair the item using screenshots from item archives). to get on my soapbox, this incident just shows how important archive threads like this are- without users archiving pieces of the site, one single slipup could permanently erase entire items for good. what's not to say that the same thing could happen to the games (something similar is already happening with zomg, with whole entire npcs going missing with their pictures and portraits saved only due to the zomg wiki's effort)?

tldr; black tonfa was almost permanently deleted due to at least two artist's mistakes, and archives ended up saving it. thank an archivist today 💐
