Let Me Tease You

I just had to download this since BG went pretty much down now with all the bugs..
And I'm not trying to be rude but I feel like there could be a lot to be fixed. Things are a bit messy on my browser (Google Chrome) and I can't find things anywhere..Plus the reason I loved BG so much was the fact we could upload our own pictures to the background and what not. I wish this had that too..

BG's options were right in your face too and I can't for the life of me find any "Options" on this Upgrade.
I mean I'm happy about a couple things..like the notices and announcements right there but I just can't figure the rest out =/
Having a lot of problems.

Are you using the extension or the old userscript?

Two things! I'm making a transition from BetterGaia and GU together to just GU by itself because of the many glitches that BG now has as the site changes and the extension doesn't. So I have one question and one suggestions right now (:

Yeah, the way our post format work is different. Basically you either set a default one or you won't be able to apply a format at all. Whichever you set as default, will automatically apply to your post AFTER you hit submit on your post.

However, we do have a "Template" feature, which works like how you're describing. You save template(s), then when you make a post, you can choose which template to "Apply" and it will then appear on the textarea.

Template only shows up on the full reply page though, not quick reply.

Question:
I've put together some post formats. If they aren't set as default, do I not have access to them? I'm used to BG post formats just showing up as a clickable button on the bottom of the post box so I could easily alternate from one post format to another.

Suggestion:
BG had an awesome interface feature such that there was a 'shortcuts' panel where you could link your most frequently used pages to this shortcut panel. I think it would make surfing to common pages even easier for users rather than having to go the [forum > subscribed threads > thread] route.

Thank you for taking the time to respond (:

We do have a quicklinks feature, just enable it fro GU > General > Enable footer quicklinks.

Oh! I see what you're saying. I think I prefer templates over post formats, but it could definitely be helpful for quick replies. Thank you!

The quick links took a little while to figure out, but I think I found it - thank you!

I ended up adding another new question to my other post (but you were already responding haha so I'll repost here!)

New question:
I'm looking at some of the posts even just on this forum page and the spoilers aren't working correctly (i.e. it's displaying content that is supposed to be hidden in the spoilers instead of functioning as a button to click and reveal the info in the spoiler). Is there something in the settings that could have triggered this?

I don't think so, can you show me an example?

Are you by any chance using Gaia Labs Forums Lite?

I do think that I have that enabled. After taking it off it looks like it solved the problem!

I'll let you know if I have any other questions/thoughts ^^ Thank you for the troubleshooting help!

Hello, i dunno if you remember me but I'm the one who has Irlen Syndrome and had asked about adding something that turns the bright white post backgrounds to off white (or some other color) . I was using bettergaia for that option but now its causing issues with backgrounds so I'll be dumping it soon. (probably for however long it takes me to get sick of the weird background thing) I was wondering if you have plans of adding something like that in soon (or at all)
thanks sorry for bothering ya

Heya, yeah I remember this suggestion. At the moment, we are working on upgrading GU to v2. And along with it, we'll try to make a better system to alter styles here and there. Right now, I'm not sure if you have noticed, whenever you use a feature like Centered Forums, you see a flash of unstyled content. So we are looking to fix that issue in general first and maybe we can discuss working on more style-related components.

Most I can do for you right now is personally make you a userstyle to help you deal with your issue, if you would like me to.

Please. If it doesn't cause you any extra trouble. I would be eternally grateful if you did, as I have no experience to do it myself. Thank you.

I dunno if this has been asked before, but, are you guys gonna try to make a way for us to change the background of Gaia like BetterGaia did?

We already have that feature, just enable "Fully customize your header using Gaia Lab's Color Switcher" and, of course, Color Switcher.

Thanks!
One more thing. Cause I just may be stupid, but is there a way to automatically apply a template? So I don't have to keep clicking apply to chose my post format.

If you want something that auto applies, don't use Templates, use Formats instead. Create one and set it as default so it would apply automatically whenever you submit a post.

It's not any trouble. We make useful things to help users. This request is well within our objectives. Plus if we make it as a userstyle now, it'll be easier to port to the extension later. smile

I'd like to note that on the forum reply page you can change which template is applied via the drop down menu in the Post Style box.

The idea of the post formats is that it's out of your way until you submit your post.
It will apply the header and footer to the beginning and end of the text respectively and interweave the BBCode throughout the post and also removes duplicate BBCode that may have otherwise been manually added; ex, if your format makes the text bold and then add a bold tag in the text it'd remove that bold tag you added because the whole thing is going to be made bold.

We believe that the user shouldn't have to find the "sweet spot" of where to type. The user should be able to just start typing and have the format applied afterwards.

Templates is more akin to how BG and the userscript version of GU worked.

Makes sense (: Thank you for the additional notes. It's always nice to see the intentionality behind both - I'm just particularly used to BG's features so I'll probs use those more.

I can also see where templates could be used for RP posts so we don't have to save the coding anywhere (like extra test threads and whatnot). So it's very versatile imo ^^
