Ruffle Flash Plugin FAQ
What is Ruffle?
Ruffle is a Flash Player emulator. It's made to work the same way as the old Adobe Flash Player would in playing Flash animation and games, but built with a modern programming language and within the modern browser's environment to avoid the inherent security flaws of the original Flash Player. Ruffle is an ongoing project and is still under development, with many of the Flash Player's features yet to be supported.
Do I need to install Ruffle?
No. Ruffle can run as a browser extension to play flash content on various websites, but Ruffle can also be installed on server side so that any web browsers can include Ruffle while loading its webpages, which is what Gaia did.
Is Ruffle safe? Didn't Flash got removed because of safety concerns?
Ruffle is written in a modern programming language called RUST and is an open-source project where all its source code are for all to review for potential exploits and issues. Ruffle only leverage the functionalities of your web browser, unlike Flash which actually has some lower level functions that proved problematic.
Are all of Gaia's Flash games now working?
As Ruffle is still under major development, most games can now start but some bugs big or small will be found. Refer to the list of features to see which games are supported.
Do Astra items work with Ruffle?
The short answer is yes, some items work with Ruffle while many others which utilize complicated layering effects do not display correctly. We are working on re-enabling Astra item support. The feature had been disabled while other changes had removed its functionality and we needed to fix some coding to re-launch Astra item support.
