I'll just quote Bria's Angelic Rod and Plus! for the answer: If you don't have a rod at the time of the weekly granting Logan will check your inventory every week until you have a rod in your account on the grant day and then he'll replace your regular Angelic with a Plus.

I hope by posting the progress I have, that people will see that its worth the effort to get the rods! I also hope the thread itself, and the FAQ will help encourage new fishers, and older players who maybe haven't gotten the AR yet, to get involved in the game. I know this is probably the dumbest question ever....but do you have to EARN it..what I mean is I see people selling them in the marketplace...if you bought one without actually earning one can you use them? or would it be locked? I cannot buy one...I was just curious if they would be locked until you got the 75k fish achievement?

If you haven't yet earned one, you can still buy and use one in the Marketplace!

Oh whoa, now I'm confused.

First a little bit of background. I used to be on another avatar waaay back BEFORE AR and AR+ got put in the game. When I came back after several years as Chollaflower, I was initially quite opposed to the AR rod. Call it a stubborn old mule streak in me. In the natural course of time at the rate I fish, I (as Chollaflower) was granted an AR. I locked it away by gifting it to a mule I knew about that nobody can access anymore as no one remembers the password.

I have considerably changed my mind regarding the AR and AR+. I had more-or-less assumed that at the 150k fish point, that since I don't have an AR, that the AR would be granted to me instead of the AR+. Is that actually not the case?

I'm sitting around 118k in fish atm, and I am aiming to get 150k in June so I can enjoy the fishing this summer (maybe, assuming my life lets me)

Can anyone clarify, or do I seriously need to be shopping for an AR somehow (yikes!!)

Yes, you'll need one in your inventory to swap it over to the + rod crying

Do you perhaps have a different alt that is "close" to 75k fish? Where getting it on her is at least an obtainable option, then moving it over so that it could be upgraded when you hit 150k on chollaflower?

Nope. I don't fish on any alts. The mule I referred to previously isn't even my mule, it belonged to a defunct zOMG clan.
