Found these old screenshots from the peak of my gaia life when Zomg was the place to be and friends were everywhere. I loved making avatars back then. Now... it's a bit overwhelming. I don't remember which items had what. I can't afford anything etc etc.

I remember that back then it was really about making a tasteful and unique avatar with some element that flexed your wealth like... horns of D or the omg hat, or laurels, or ancient katana etc. have one of those on your avi was how you knew you were cool.

Not anymore, but I kept my "standard" outfit from 2007-2008 saved for nostalgia reasons until I needed the space. Also not all nostalgia is good, I guess, because I was trying to play off the "cool, dark loner" stereotype and seeing it gave me bad vibes. Says the guy with a red-black avatar... sweatdrop

But yeah, I was one of those peeps rocking a Black Musketeer Top, Black Biker Boots, Black 90s Gloves, some ripped black jeans whose name I forgot, and the default long hair but in silver. Oh, and a pair of Flame Swords! Can't go wrong with those. rofl

I don't mind the "clunky" old style. I think it's charming. Back when I joined and was active there were nowhere near as many items as today, so we had to make do with what was available. And even though the colors often didn't match and the avatars were hieratic as hell (arm mods and leg mods weren't a thing), they're what defined the iconic look of Gaia avatars for me. The new ones might be more visually pleasing and easier to match, but they just don't scratch the same itch, you know?

Kind of surprised no one from the community has stepped up to throw something together. I'm sure there are some programmers or what have you lurking after all these years.

Based on Arena entry history this was a 2007 avatar! I was at this point just getting into matchy.


There was a long period of time where I used the nosey tattoo and had skintone c.


But I have been cluttery/matchy for a long time. This one got 9th in the arena in 2009 emotion_kirakira
