Despite the fact that I do find all the focus on Cash Shop stuff really annoying, I have to admit that money is a pretty important thing to have these days, not just to keep the site running, but also to make sure that the staff and artists here get the pay they deserve. (I sincerely hope that's the case, at any rate.)

I also sort of think that it would have been better for Tekton to leave Tektek in someone else's hands and be a 'by fans, for fans' deal before creating his own site, because it really does seem like he's exploiting Gaia's resources to serve as a not-so-discreet way of advertising for himself. stare

That said, it's sad to see Tektek go down like this. I haven't really used it all that much, but I do have some fond memories, and I will miss the Dream Avatar and toolbar functions. crying

Now if the item tagging system gets improved and Dress Up lets me equip multiple poses of the same item from Search...

tab I suppose at this point I'm simply indifferent? neutral Yeah I'm a little bummed tektek's closing, it's search function was amazing and I'm going to miss it - especially sorting items by colors. But, I'm not going to go grab my pitchfork and join the angry mob. Site Feedback is a nightmare right now.

I just wish Gaia tagged their items better? sweatdrop For instance, just search "braid" on tektek and then on Gaia.

sweatdrop because Tektek has been banned in my place for nearly a year now, so I have not been able to use it and learned to compensate on what I got now. I still want to know why the Saudi censors banned it besides the site having porn, subversive material or some suspicious software like what zOMG! had. (zOMG! is the only Gaian game I never got to play because of this)

I am actually surprised the Saudi censors have not blocked Gaia for you entirely. Stuff discussed in certain forums and sub-forums would make their heads spin.

xd Would you believe they blocked Tentacl on the 2nd day of their opening, because of the dik gif posted on the splash page.

I think Gaia slips in their radar because we don't look 'realistic' in their standards...and we're too small a community to be really worried about in contrast to vine, twitter, tumblr, fb and reddit.

Idk if the ban in Tektek is related to the ads, some ads do lead to phish/hack sites. We still don't have access to Tinyurl because of this, though goo.gl, bitly and some other micro-url sites are functional.

You say reddit is blocked for you, but do you have ways around the blocks? I would be very interested if you did an AMA on reddit about Saudi censorship.

Reddit isn't fully blocked yet for now, thankfully though there are times the page will load super slow . On tumblr though there are blocked pages like Reapersun's (porn content perhaps?)

Take the worst bits of the chatterbox and GD. Now multiply that by ten and add bits of downright hostile attitude and not just petty bs. That's recolor.me's active user base.

I got talked down to for making JOKES on a regular basis, or for not knowing their elaborate personal site politics, or just plain anything. They were beyond s**t.

It's a lost cause and Tekton should have abandoned it long ago

This doesn't mean that Tek Tek necessarily has to shut down, all that letter states is that they must not use Gaia's logo's anymore. This happened on another website I was on a few years ago as well and the site is still currently running. This is just a business thing. Whether or not Tek Tek shuts down is up to them but all the letter states is that they must stop using the logo's and trademarks. It's just like any business's they own rights to their logo's and trademarks so that no other company may use it.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I find myself disliking the way Tekton worded the message about the site being taken down?

The message on the front page seems ripe for raising 'gonna ragequit Gaia for being moneybags' reactions that would cause more people to join his site, which would be a damn sneaky way of squeezing the last dregs of usefulness out of Tektek before the takedown goes into effect.

Mind you, I'm just one of the ignorant masses and know nothing about Tekton's character, so please inform me if I'm being slandorous here.

This is ridiculous. How was Tektek impeding their business? Tektek has been a part of my Gaia life since the very beginning, and Tekton put a substantial amount of work into it. He credited Gaia.

If Gaia thinks that their search function that they give us when we're making an avie is sufficient, they're wrong. For starters, you can only equip one pose of an item you search, and leaves out items that fit your search topic! It also brings up unnecessary items when you search. If they're going to force tektek to shut down its Gaia avatar maker, then Gaia needs to provide us with something of the same quality, because Tektek was miles better than what Gaia has for us, currently.

I can understand them doing this if Tektek had maliciously used Gaia's stuff, but it didn't. Tektek has been fine running all these years, and suddenly it's just not acceptable anymore? It truly makes me sad. "Tektek" is apart of the social aspect of Gaia, and now that's going away.

I sincerely hope that Gaia either makes an avie generator of the same quality that Tektek had, or they backtrack and let Tektek stay up. Which won't happen, but a girl can hope.

I'm sure I'll be less bummed about this once I've completely woken up, but this is my zombified first reaction to the closing of Tektek. lol

ummm the owners personal information is on the first post, huh. I'm surprised the owner just posted it publicly.

I think the website could've greatly benefitted the website rather than harm it. With so many items to maintain they could have bought tektek and help update the database of items based on every item release since it was extremely outdated and it hasn't been able to keep up with the newer economy and the influx of pries.

There's a lot of functions that Gaia doesn't have so that were really useful that can't be substituted so the website could have benefited them. :/ Either way I've been using it to find out all the items that came out since I left, and the variations but the website feels dated .

I honestly don't quite know where my stance on this issue lays. Putting the nostalgia factor aside, Tektek was pretty much abandoned by Tekton for his other avatar-based website. But the choice to hand a C&D on Gaia's part is just sad. I believe both parties could've easily reached a decision without going through the legal route, possibly even integrating Tektek's features into Gaia as a result. But whatever. I'll miss Tektek, but I'm not crying or rage quitting Gaia for it.

And I'm really confused as to why some are mentioning copyright laws against Gaia in the argument. Those items are safe under the Fair Use/Parody laws, are they not?
