If you go to the gold shops and sort by "oldest" you'll see the first 2 thousand or so items they started Gaia with. But I like your original conclusion that the peasant items were first. As most avatars are female' and the peasant dresses are numbered starting with the gray one, go with User Image rofl

LOl i looked up, it even doesn't have sales or anything, looks like a ghost item

It's kind of a joke/myth of Gaia. It was created by VO - and the story goes, it was leaked prior to release, so it was never released.

ooooh didn't know it, kinda obscure but funny xd

I dunno, I think it might be this one. User Image

Date appeared: 2003-01-03
According to the marketplace. The female peasant top seems to have appeared 2003-05-12. The male top Tan Peasant's Shirt is also the first piece of clothing listed, so I'm gonna go with that.

the item release date feature in the mp isn't necessarily reliable - the peasant clothing for both male and female avatars had to have
been released at the same time, otherwise the males would have been clothed and the females would have been
trapped in their base bra/panty set (which i'd guess wouldn't have been their plan, seeing how the site was geared for a young crowd)
of course that doesn't necessarily mean the tan peasant top wasn't "first," i just wouldn't rely on the dates too much User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

idk what the oldest item is but i remember the best shop items released, those musketeer items
Peasant clothes, straight up og.

clarion's King

Royal Rare

It would have had to be the first starter items, as already mentioned. The time of which the items were entered into the database by the staff is completely trivial since items don't really "exist" until someone activates them (i.e. the item enters a user's inventory, subsequently creating a unique ID).

oldest collectable

In June 2003, staff made an item to give to a handful of users who had donated funds to help support the site in its startup days. After that, every month the offer was open to receive a Thank-You Letter with a special item for every $2.50 a user donated. That first Donation Item (as Monthly Collectibles were once known, and I'm assuming you're referring to) was the Angelic Halo.

valuable

Not sure what you mean, exactly, since value is a subjective characteristic -- what has value in the eyes of one person might have none to another.

But... as you probably know, Gaia launched in February 2003. Easter was a couple months later, and they held their first Easter event on Sunday, April 20, 2003. Not the week leading up to it, or for the weekend -- no, for the first couple years, events happened on that day (Easter, Halloween, X-mas), and that's it. The event items for the Easter 2003 event were the Bunny Slippers and Chicky Slippers.

or the first market item thats probably info lost in time

Most likely. The "first market item" wouldn't even be a valid way to find the "oldest" item, since I seem to remember hearing the marketplace was added to Gaia a couple months in. In other words, items existed prior to the Marketplace.

And I don't think item number is really anything but coincidental; Sure, the Tan Peasant's Shirt is item #12, but the matching pants are #17, the male avatar shoes are #22, the female shoes are #1221, the female top is #1218, and the gloves are #1224. The shop items weren't necessarily entered into the database in the order in which they were created.

Red rose corsage and black bowtie were before bunny/chicky slippers, I believe. They were given out at the First Gaian Ball in March 2003. :3

I was going to say the brown one (though the first time I came to Gaia, I received the green one instead. xd )

But yes, I think the peasant clothes were the very first items. It's where everyone started in rags, worked hard and steadily climbed all the way to riches.

Although many Gaians joined at the time Peasant Clothes were given as default starter wear, this was not the earliest iteration of join schemes.

When I joined (March 19, 2003), I was granted 250 gold to purchase my first outfit from Ian's (the only store at that time). I ended up getting the (ugly, to me) brown and orange Grecian Rose set (minus the sandals, had to work for those!) because I could get both pieces with the original gold grant, whereas the lovelier green/yellow and blue/purple sets cost more gold, so I would have had to post nude for a few days to earn those, and I didn't want to do that. redface

I don't remember the Peasant sets' even being in Ian's when I joined. I would be surprised if they were the first items on Gaia, although they could have been created before their release.

im guessing starter or peasant set?
i assume gaia started with a bunch of clothes to choose from so they'd have debuted on the same day

In the beginning there were no starter sets to choose from.
When I made my first avatar, in October 2014, I was automatically given the peasant clothes to start out with.
The peasant shoes existed, but for the starting avatar you were not given any shoes, a starting avatar was barefoot, and if you wanted shoes you had to buy them.
Male avatars were given the peasant shirt and pants, female avatars were given the peasant dress, and that's all we got back then.
The starter sets came much later, after much complaining that the peasant outfits were a bit too harsh for starting out.

I've always wondered about the peasant clothes. When I joined in nov 03, I only received the gold you mentioned and no clothes at all. Then I found out most people got peasant sets after signing up. I *still* find peasant dresses beautiful and I felt so upset back then I didn't get mine (apparentlybecause of a glitch). I think they were very cheap (even by 03 standards) but I wanted the experience of receiving the peasants like everyone else did "from Gaia" as opposed to buying them. So I started a quest for a peasant set xd I remember one of the forum regs stopped by my thread and went like "here you go, have a it, stop this nonsense" but I felt so genuinely happy. I have kept that peasant set for all these years and I love it. I don't know if this makes any sense but it's one of my favorite memories of my early years in Gaia xD

So peasants, yes, #1 in my heart.

well it seems the first 11 items don't exist anymore, but the oldest is indeed the peasant set. and of those Tan Peasant's Shirt was created first.
you can tell by its item number in the url
https://www.gaiaonline.com/marketplace/itemdetail/12/

the tan peasant shirt is the 12th item ever created, and was created before gaia existed in january of 2003.
