Because people would like to believe others would actually want to spy on them/harass them, when in actual fact they just want to post a comment. Oh and I call bullshit on privacy, because you don't have to have anything on your profile that you don't want.

Because it's easier to have a group conversation in a profile than through PMs, but is more private than a forum thread. It's good if you don't have the gold for a guild and and to chat to everyone in your friendlist in private.

I have my profile public, but know a lot of people who set it to private for that reason...

Also some of my friends have set theirs to private to deter unwelcome attention from stalker like Gaians xd

Seriously though as stated before placing your profile on private is just a way they can have a bit of privateness between themselves and their friends and really, I'm not curious enough to be annoyed by it.

It doesn't bother me at all. I don't usually care about people's profiles, being the anti-social type I am. There are some pleasant ones that I like seeing.. but if that message comes up, I just go back to whatever I was doing.

Yes, this isn't Facebook, but some people don't use Facebook and talk to their friends on here.
I don't care if someone's profile is private or not, if I have something to say I'll probably just PM them.

Also, why put your picture in your sig either? This isn't Myspace. =P

Okay, I know this is going to come as a shock, but not everybody is like you. Some people don't want their join date, post count, comments, etc displayed. What might seem like small potatoes to you could be very important to somebody else.

The only thing that annoys me is when someone comments me and I can't comment them back because their profile/comments are disabled. x_X

I feel the same way. I don't care if someone has made their profile private but for God's sake don't comment on mine if you don't want me to comment back. It drives me absolutely bonkers because it always some comment I want to comment back to.

For someone who owns two guilds and is a vice captain of a third one, I see it very important for me to be able to view the applicant's profile. Because I want to make sure you're not just a troll, mule or any other trouble maker you may be. rolleyes

And personally, I hide profiles only for my mules. There's nothing in there anyway, and I don't always want to see people relating them to me.

Otherwise, people hiding their profiles, makes me think that they have something to hide. Like they're doing something naughty o__<

I'm suspicious of those types... Either they're really flattering themselves or they posted private information on a Gaia profile, which is a dumb idea no matter how few people have access to it.

I tend to just deck out my profile with avatar art I've done and cute gif. The only thing really person there is a link list to other networking sites I'm on. I don't really see a point in making it private unless you're harassed on a daily basis.
