Welcome to Gaia! ::

Rude's Bestie

Cat

I use one of the light vampire skins because I like the shading. I think a lot of the fantasy skins have way nicer details than the basic skins so I use one whenever possible. I have alternatives for when I need a base mod that only comes in basic tones though, because I try to avoid changing my base as much as possible since those vamp potions are not cheap D:

Magic Hero

if you're not using a Halloween 2k12 Vampire Potion idk if i respect your work tbh
other than that i'm fairly certain that none other permaskins of quality exist
cool

Professional Loiterer

User ImageI've been a grombie since 2005, so I've tussled with this particular issue for a while!

Though lately it has been nice to find that there are loads of items that have fantasy skins included, I (for some reason) decided I wasn't having a difficult enough time and began using the Zombae skin a couple weeks ago.

Aaand now I'm stuck. It just goes with my wardrobe way too well! So while I'm okay with the idea of swapping back to grombie mode once in a while (to make use of my cache of arm mods, ofc) I'm really hoping that I get a chance to recolor an item or two myself... NOTHING seems to accommodate the zombae skin, and that must be rectified! 3nodding

Fated Paladin

Back in the day, the cosmic skin from Padmavati's Lotus was my jam. I used it a lot, though not so much anymore. Nowadays, I frequently use Frozen Warlord and Latter Day Caesar. I can usually get away with using arm and leg mods with them, since they're pretty close to Skintone C and Vampire, respectively. It's not perfect, but it's close enough for me.

I use more colorful fantasy skins if I make some sort of monster or alien, and in those cases it's not the lack of matching arms and legs that bothers me, but the lack of matching Elven/Erlking ears for many newer skins. emotion_donotwant

Slumbering Tengu

Fantasy skin usage is all about that lovely compromise
picking a skin that comes close to a usual color is best to do
for example my tengu skin is grey-white (it's very old)
but anything in pure white essentially fits the bill
and I've found ivory works in a pinch as well

If you're hellbent on your skin being the next thing, that's what tickets are for xD
Nothing is stopping people from adding a desired skin in that 6th arm slot pose
I feel it would take a lot of convincing for Gaia to make a v3 fantasy arms
considering v2 fantasy already don't get the love v1 does

Modern Mecha

I've been using the Nano-C Droid skin on and off ever since it was first introduced. I can get away with using most white arm mods, but I would like some more visibly cybernetic mods, too.

The only thing that would make me stop using this skin is the release of an even better android skin.

Special Snowflake

I use the original vampire skin and have done since it came out in... 2007?? I have no idea when that event was....

I'm a lucky base in that I get a few matching body mods sometimes, and I'm so,so,so grateful when Gaia artist do the usually fantasy tones <3 ilu artist-senpais,- you're so cool. I just love the face shape.

As much as I love it the jawline is in a different place to normal base so some collars/ necklines will cut my chin horizontally and it looks bad lol, so often I can't use a lot of tops or collars.

It's a difficult skin because, even though we have "vampire" tones most of the time it's mismatched as when it's recoloured the skin is made completely desaturated, as in grey?. If you study the original vampire skin it actually has some red tone in there so it shouldn't be that desaturated.... But nevermind, it's close enough if I cover the join area with something. Sometimes, one the original base tone mods will work if I cover the join area too.

The worst thing about the original vampire skin that most eye and mouth mods don't work. Eyes layer under the vampire eyes and mouths don't unequipped the base mouth... There was a few that didn't do that but that was literally only when Reapersun used to use the base, as soon as she stopped using it most mods stopped too sad there are still a good few that do work but I'm always sad when I like a mod I can't use... If I could I'd want my base to have no eyes or mouth lol. I haven't made a big deal about it since I'm happy enough to at least get body mods.

I don't really switch back, when I need a different tone, I'll usually just throw on an item with a skin on. It's essentially the same thing without all the inconvenience of buying options and then going to inventory to use them.

I love all tones of bases, but ... Sometimes I think that Gaia shouldn't do new one colours since they bring out so many body mods it's unfair to new skin users if they aren't gonna get nice items. Like the recent addition of the candy skins in skin tyte , I mean... I dunno how many people use them because there's just no items for them @A@;
I recently fell in love with the Wasteland Recon skin like oh boy this is nice. Issue here is there's one arm mod and I'm wearing it, rip. I like using fantasy skins BECAUSE it's more difficult to make bases for, gives me a challenge. I couldn't be perma anything but my base tone f because of it, but I like skins I can switch to in my invo are my fav because I can just test out a skin with new cookie cutter mods and see if I like it. I have plans to add wasteland skin with any of my recolours tbh. Probably to replace black as a colour. And if I can can make some of my favourite legs into bare things I will do that too.
I'm with the original vampire skin because of the face shape and 'warm' paleness, and how overall it is the only skin that actually has a chin. When I try anything else now I feel like Betty Boop; no actual definition and creepily chibiesque. My character isn't supposed to be a vampire as she is human, but I'll take whatever aesthetically works. (Oyes, pointy ears be misleading)

Is not a bad skin to use because like Shaka said, it does get matching mods save for a few off-tones and layering issues here and there. I think that in the near future Gaia should focus more on their neglected skins. Others have it much, much worse and they should have at the very least half the options I do, even if it means mine won't be a priority in the process.

I used to be a dark elf for the longest time and had difficulties making outfits that wouldn't make it look weird - but I loved how skinny the bodies of dark elves were so much, I had it for ever. Then I basically had a bad day making an outfit, said "******** it all" and just became a human again randomly and have been one ever since. I tried various skins every once in a while but never found them easy to work with or too inviting, so I decided on human one. Beau is technically not a human anyway, so I don't pay much attention to her looks. She might be blue for all I care but human skin is easier to work with.

I have it in my profile but yeah since the event that allowed you to be a dark elf I have been one. I know we only had blue for a bit and when they added the other two colors I used to bounce from gray to purple to blue and then back to gray but I have been rather solid with keeping my base. When the new new dark elf potions came out I tried it but well I didn't like how thick everything was so I instantly switched back to the older dark elf bases.

As I have stated in another thread even when there was no dark elf bases I wasn't exactly in love with the human bases and was always trying to cover it with skins and elven ears so the dark elf bases were a dream come true and I never regret it. Even though it has its kinks this is the base I love dressing. Being a standard base just looks boring when making my avatar. I do get mad when fantasy bases get overlooked on items. Especially when it's half the rig or bundle or item. I boycott anything that neglects to include in some way. I especially have been turned off on full body mods since they've started to take over the site and look a bit lazy as half of the item looks like one pose recolored six times. And they take over the avatar not allowing for much modifications on your outfits.

Dapper Puppy

Not only do I wear a fantasy skin, but I specifically recolored an item to make that skin even more unique. Sure, sometimes I can't wear certain mods with it, but that is why I appear human from time to time. I've found the best way to work with it is investing in arm mods that don't show any skin. Professor Merlin, Meido's Cafe: Yan's Side, Kakumei Soldier, and Town Mayor, are just a small list of items I can use to get around the not-being-covered issue.

Fluffy Glitch

When I was on Gaia at first I used a human skin but used tentacles & a sword on my back to create 'wings' for the longest time. I was very consistent with the human skin until the event skins came out. The first I used was the first vampire skin then I went back to human. Then I used the dark elf skin, back to human. I just couldn't seem to find my true skin color as I'd switch back to human.

One day I decided to use the potion pose from the gimpi item that I've had in my inventory for a very long time and I have been a Gimpi since. I've only recently switched to a dragon skin here and there, thank you Doc Arkham (I hope I'm spelling the username right).

Underneath the Gimpi skin I have the dark vampire skin, which I've had since it came out. The only issues I had for a long time was there wasn't hardly any leg mods I could use with gimpi, now there are a lot so thank you Gaia.

I used a rainbow ticket to recolor a set of leg poses with Gimpi and Grombie skin colors.

I've used my grombie skin since 05 haha. Before if you took the vial of unknown liquid it would remove it completely. Later it was re-introduced for wing stickers.

There's a few cosplays I want to do, but I just can't bring myself to change. They look pretty nice too lol.
