I've gotten some things out of it that I regard as Not Crap, but I'm poor so generally I take what I can get.

Kind of sick of the cache's, but generally I don't mind DD and I actually have a good portion of my inventory because of it.

I think it gets cleaned out a lot, and it's really luck of the draw. Sometimes I will get two-three good (for me) items in a row followed by a bunch of paper grabs.

That's good to hear! Lately have you been getting, on average, the same quality of stuff from maybe a month or two ago? I'm curious!!

I've been getting less varied things. This month in the DD, if I wasn't getting papers or caches, I got Death Marches. I have seven of them now on this account (I had none,) and have two or three (also from the DD this month) on another account. I mean, I won't complain because super adorable, but last month I didn't get duplicates of any items out of the DD. I also got two bundles, some SD plushies, Sweet Lady, Illuminated Virgin Lace, Peach Pudding Princess, Famulus Abscīsa, and others I can't recall.

Why the change in variation, I don't know. Might just be my luck (it would also be my luck that I'm still missing the Marches that I want.)

My inventory, especially with the account worth bug, was 'too large'. Is still something I try to trim down. I keep a small set of mules to sell dupes and things I don't want. Anything under 500mil is instantly dumped (or sold back to Gaia if it's cheap gold shop, I do have standards).

I stopped diving due to cache spam and never looked back but the mules occasionally get cute thank yous so at least some people enjoy themselves.

As for alchemy, I did eventually dive in...but just bought the bigger packs from the shop directly. If you are OR aren't looking to craft, the dd caches are definitely the less helpful option all around. lol

Dumpster Dive is a terrible habit of mine.
I did it too often and now I have a ton of crap that I'm very slooooooooooooowly getting rid of.
You'd think I'd learn since I've already gone through this a couple years ago.
But it's a good way to pass the time and you know what they say about rewards and the human brain.
I only really donate things that have no chance of selling on the MP because they're too common and the price is too low. (like 1g items, I usually trash those, though.)

I love a good conspiracy theory, but I don't think that this is a conspiracy. I've been getting crumpled paper a lot too lately and I've been getting the "empty dumpster message" a lot but I think there are reasons that don't include a quiet attempt by the admins to control the economy. (not in any particular order btw)
1. It's after the holiday season and people might not be as generous as they were during the holidays.
2. We're not sure what the (needed) fix to the economy is going to include so people may be hoarding items to sell later.
3. Since the announcement that Lanzer is running the show again people have been coming back to see what is going on and so there are more people hitting the dumpster daily than there were a few months ago.
4. Lanzer fixed the inventory arranger. I heard stories about people getting frustrated and dumping things just because they couldn't arrange them the way they wanted to.
5. The luck of the draw. You may just be having an unlucky streak right now. It's rare when I get anything truly useful from the dumpster. Jonjon's cache spam was awesome since those caches have a sell back value and I can always use the gold. I doubt I'll get good stuff from the dumpster for quite a while now that it's over.

I think there are much easier ways for the admins to fix the economy than pulling stuff from the dumpster so all that's left for us to pull out is trash. There are plenty of underutilized gold sinks around the site right now that would be a more efficient way of removing gold from the economy when the admins have time to give them some attention.

I know I donate to the dumpster dive a LOT! I have tons of crap I don't want. Though, it seems like all I get is crumpled paper from the admin. I know lots of people donate all the time, why dont I ever get anything but garbage? To me, it seems like if someone doesn't click the 'dive' button shortly after someone donates, the item disappears. I've had people instantly get my items and on a thank you, quite often actually.

What do you guys think is up with the dumpster dive? To me, it seems like a scam, Gaia taking items from users to help get the market under control.


Though, that's just my conspiracy. I really, truly, honestly want a discussion about this with someone. It's really been bothering me lately.

Jonjons cache thing gives me nightmares! Though, I think I once accidentally did the same thing, though obviously not on the same scale, with those useless rigs from the galaxy LK place (can't remember the name rn haha)

I've been getting a LOT better items since posting this, though! I think I'm just being paranoid, just a bit! I love reading all these replies, it's interesting to see how Gaia is behaving for everybody else :3

When I came back after being gone for years, I randomly discovered it and thought it was the coolest thing ever! It helped me get back on my feet after all this inflation had happened. Back in my day, having a nitemare scarf meant you're rich as heck!

Now it's like an item I'd donate to a quester in a heartbeat if they were genuinely good people lol

I just dump LK rigs and neigh unsellable items in there I also may or may not have put a bunch of mouse kin eggs in there during my currently on hiatus quest to get enough of the jolly holiday items to make those cute wintermint alchemy versions. Also put some of my extra valentine stagony's in there (I got like 5 of them immediately after someone gifted me one)

Well... It's a dumpster... And, from my own IRL experience, outside of department stores closing down, dumpsters don't typically have a lot of stuff in them aside from... Well... Garbage... cat_rolleyes

However, Gaia's dumpster can yield some real gems, but... I don't send thanks anymore... Not because I don't want to, but because I've gotten flak in return, even to the point that I've had to block these Gaians... And it is really sad to think a simple thank you notice led to that too... cat_sweatdrop

Finally, the Dumpster is regularly filled by the Admin with Aquarium items (FISHIES~! cat_4laugh ) and basic trash items (not items that are trash, but trash representing items, like crumpled paper), which people used to have to scour Towns for that stuff, several of them being rather rare too cat_3nodding ...Everything else comes from Gaians, which should never be taken as "If I donate, then I'll get something some other Gaian donated" ...Because that isn't how it works... Plus we also can donate anonymously too cat_rolleyes (which is what I do now, because I don't need Gaians thanking me for what really could be seen as I'm too lazy to wait for these items to sell in the MP, but I want them gone from my inventory now cat_xp )...

Basically, there isn't any conspiracy here, but it might be best not to use it for diving purposes if it is causing you to think this way, since that level of anxiety can't be healthy... cat_3nodding
