Welcome to Gaia! ::

Gaia Online is a unique forum website, with unique customizable 2D avatars. It has been online ever since year 2003, way earlier than when I joined. That's one of Gaia Online's keywords: uniqueness. So far, absolutely no one have been close to replace Gaia Online, it is an underrated and underappreciated pearl of the internet. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. are all boring and easy to replace. Those are generic social media sites, nothing more.

Gaia Online has that uniqueness that is not easy to copy or replace. So yes, I would say Gaia Online doesn't need to come back, because it has always been here, a part of our daily lives. And nothing is restricted by paywalls either, only those optional subscriptions. If Gaia Online tries to become just another mainstream social media website, then the uniqueness may fade away, which means it will be easy to replace. Gaia Online needs to always keep its uniqueness, to stay relevant both now and in the future. Gaia Online will be 20 years old next year, so they definitely did something right.

Gaia definitely could use a revive.
I've been wanting to be more active on here, but with how
small the community is now, it feels so dead and not much to really do.

Gaia could make a comeback if people were promoting it. Or if gaia was able to
land a huge sponsorship or something to help boost traffic. But I dunno ;;
Even then, gaia would need substance to keep people on the site.
Lately it's been feeling like a huge money gatcha with very little fun activities to do other
than posting.

So eh

No. You have to have a hook and the economy/collectibles were their hook. There are so many items now absolutely nothing is special about it, and if they tried to “clean slate” and start over they would never be able to re-create the slow build to popularity that established their original economy structure.

Online socializing has also shifted and gaia never adapted.
I’m pretty confident the only thing keeping this site afloat is nostalgic millenials and their adult income growing up with the site.

This...
Even coming back after all these years, it's just not the same. The shoddy, hideous- looking addon content focussed on gambling is disappointing. We need someone to take over this site who actually cares about it. It's a business so they still need to make money, but I'd like to see some more focus on keeping the classic content going.

Remaking the Flash games might be difficult/ impossible, do we know if they'd even tried, or if they plan on trying?

Rally is being remade and has a working prototype.

i think it could, but it'd require such a drastic overhaul of the site, that it wouldn't even be gaia anymore.

as is, gaia is not very accessible for new players. like a lot of people will click on rallies/towns/chat and see they have to download a new browser and just quit the site, lol... idkk. mobile app was bad too(idk if it's changed). many ppl would just rather talk on discord or whatev, Instad of relying on old school forums. even if u lured ppl back onto the site, theyd prolly just leave, Cuz of the site's issues, i think.

There would need to be considerable reforms for Gaia to make a comeback. Fundamentally, the site is still the exact same as it was back in 2007. Except some minor games, and more ways to spend money on an ever growing collection of cosmetics. And that just doesn't cut it for modern internet users.
Not saying it should become a social media platform with flash games, but somewhere in there, Gaiaonline would need to find something unique to offer.

I don't know what would re-ignite the community to bring in lots of fresh blood but one thing that I know would help would be making sure major parts of the site still work.

As someone mentioned above, a LOT of the site and roughly 70% of it's most appealing attractions were flash based and once flash died, the priority should have been either upgrading/replacing the broken features or at least slapping some band-aids over the top of them to soften the blow. Aside from that Rally beta and teasing Towns 3, the general approach to this issue has been sticking their heads in the sand.

Accessibility and first impressions are a large part of visitor retention and Gaia in it's current form has neither going for it.
Gaia Online can make a comeback in the future but they need to rely on cloud computing, re-write all their code for the flash games and make it app compatible.

All it would take is some outside the box thinking and we would be thriving more than Meta or Instagram or Snapchat

Unfortunately there are just too many alternatives ...

What are these alternatives? I slid into here after wearing out my other options. confused

If they gave an incentive to switch to a new version of Gaia I'd be happy to try it. Like taking however much your account is worth now and have that as your starting amount on your new account. Maybe that's asking too much. Id just feel upset if they closed this version and I lost all my stuff or something. It'd be frustrating I think to start over even if it's more promising.

I'm Not sure if I'm Offended because you're Right on Both accounts or Just feeling vulnerable for being called out like that. sweatdrop
