I can't be arsed to look up the characters for the actual word to confirm if it's zhi or zi. I'm doing this all from memory. Also I learned from spoken vernacular Chinese, not written Chinese, so excuse me for any mistakes I make.

And I DEFINITELY can't be buggered to put the accents on them. I just don't care that much.

More relevantly, the "lie-chi" pronunciation would be a twist on the Cantonese word for the fruit. "Lee-chi" would probably be derived from the Mandarin pronunciation. Same fruit, pronunciation doesn't matter at the end of the day. Tomato tomahto, you know?

You can pronounce it either LEE CHEE or LIE CHEE ( I just took random words and sounds to create it haha)
My dad is from Hawaii and calls it LIE CHEE, but my grandfather is from China and calls it Lee Chee
It smells really good and tastes really good! This guy has lychee scented shampoo and conditioner, so I smell his hair all the time. Kids at school are having strange thoughts about me now .__.
