Welcome to Gaia! ::

Alot of the roleplays in Barton are pretty advanced lit, or wanting 5 paragraphs than casual roleplays back in the day. They often do die, and like someone else mentioned- theres the assigned roles in alot of the roleplays being made. I think the roleplay community isn't as welcoming as it was - but, you might find a group of people you can mix right in with.
I hear that the walk-in-roleplays are pretty fun, and don't die as often.

a few longer-lasting RPs fell into the pattern of starting out in Gaia and continuing on in other places like Discord, from what I've seen! Others do a hybrid of having a Discord channel for ooc and plot-planning while keeping the RPs in the main threads (because half of the fun is in the layouts ofc)

these days I see a lot of the more multi-paragraph based RPs which I personally am not too big a fan of, since I feel like they usually get too rigid to allow for a natural flow of interaction between characters User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
I think people still do it.
Yes people still rp, and erp because they thirsty asf
My best friend and I came back on gaia to rp for the use of the forums. I don't like the crazy detailed post formats, and pics are fine if kept to a minimum. I just like the writing part! And we're using the dice rolls on gaia to do kind of a free form table top rpg style to add challenge and randomness. With roleplays, we care more about the writing, story, and game more than aesthetics.

We had a roleplay on a different site that reached 70k words before life got in the way. Putting it all into a google document, it was somewhat nice to see we practically wrote a small novel together.

Supreme Demigod

Back in 07-08 rp for me had allot to do with the beef between the naruto role play and the demon/magical role play sub-communities within Towns. Now, most if it could be scene as chaotic and mostly childish screaming, but every now and then something epic would happen that would shape the role play ecosystem so to speak. It was a pretty cool experience until it wasn't in like 09-10. In around 2011 was when most of the hardcore old school ninja role players quit and we all just kinda moved on.

Its was a bunch of power tripping but it was also a lot of fun too. The whole post-apocalyptic ninja's vs demons sub-plot was really epic. There were a lot of really cool ideas that came out in the golden era. I really miss some of the friends I meet during those times.
