You wanna make your own IoDM? Nobody is stopping you. Anyone can make another shop based on the original book, and they already have. My original point on the 'intellectual property' was that if you make your own shop based off this particular one with Sabin Duvert and Nicholas Moreau, using same test characters, same island, same setting, etc, yo' a** is gonna get B&. You wouldn't be able to migrate existing characters because that would be a deritive work, and you would need express permission of the original shop owners for that. People have asked, already been denied. And thus, Nick Moreau's modern day IoDM is no more.

Anything you would make would have to be a completely new shop. And that would involve your own new setting, new characters, new art, etc. If you want to put that much work in, that's OK.

As for advertising it here? I really don't advise it. Advertising your own Gold-making shop in somebody else's is considered highly rude. Try it in an active B/C shop and see how far you get.

...what the hell is wrong with you? Your acting like a third grader. To start, I wasn't advertising. Someone suggested an alternate place for people to go to, and I was agreeing that, after I looked at them, they WERE nice. I didn't know that it was a crime to agree with someone. So knock it off with the 'tude, okay, cause you aren't impressing anyone, including myself, with your pretentious god-modding.

For two, nobody suggested and RP EXACTLY like this one, although Ieeko was right- the island of Dr. Moreau itself came from HG Wells, not the people who started this shop. No one said anything about taking original characters from here to there, and frankly I'm insulted at the insinuation that I would allow people to tweak copyrighted works. I have more sense then that, thank you. I'd be sure to stipulate that all characters had to be new and NOT from here.

So you know what? Go take a hot bath. Have some cocoa, and drop a chill pill in your drink while your at it. Because you, my dear, are really freakin' RUDE.

That is all.

Uhm, you were advertising your own "new version" of IoDM in the post above where you praise otehr communities. I think that is what she was referring to.

I'd also like to contend your "I never said I wanted to recreate this one" argue. In your little note thing on your Deviantart, you link two IoDM artists and an IoDM fanart as "something potential artists should look at." It makes it very easy to come to the conclusion that you are trying to recreate it. 8U

Never fear, I have screencaps of it all! 8D
Then I misrepresented myself, and I accept full responsibility for that.

The other IoDM that's been running (for nearly 6 months now) features all original characters and storyline, with none of the previous characters from this shop, although I will admit the intended atmosphere was the same. And I wasn't advertising my site. Were that the case I would have linked it and said go here. As a matter of fact, I do believe I stated that in my original post.

What I DID say, however, was that if people were interested in making something *SIMILAR*, I am an artist and would be willing to both play and help. My call for artists in my Devart was pertaining to my other forum, not to this topic, which was, (if you had bothered to look) posted several hours after my call for artists. In other words, it was unrelated to this until I decided to come and see if this ship had been re-opened, as I hadn't checked in ages. Because of course, in my humble opinion, this shop would have been MUCH better then a separate site.

Anyways, I can see that your not going to listen to what I have to say. This is a very touchy subject here, and I can understand why. It was a good thing while it lasted. Having recently given up my own forum due to excess drama from people, I can understand why it would have been shut down. There is such a deal as too much of a good thing.

That being said, I will bow out of this topic, before I get my head bitten off again by the pack of rabid wolves.

Thanks folks.
Aw, I missed her because Kamiki had be b& from the thread. 8D

*gets on her IODM mule OH THE IRONY*

My question though was where the hell did you come from? o_O It's like you pop your head in to fling around a billboard with your face on it and then run out again.
I'm glad that three people were more than enough to chase you away! *salute*
There's a difference between advertising in a dead shop to provide an alternative to advertising in an active shop. An active shop is still functioning, therefore still producing for its audience, whereas a dead shop is not. 0_o;

Point being, it was a general suggestion and conversation about alternatives for people interested in the theme. It isn't hurting business here because there is no business.

And I just got the sense that you were striking down the idea of doing anything further with this idea by tossing out the intellectual property bid, which was moot to begin with to me. :/

XD I saw the DA note too, actually, and it looked more like an example of "this is what sort of thing you'd be doing and what I'm looking for". Not a "I need you to replicate this perfectly" or something. Giving artwork examples doesn't seem like "I want to recreate this shop exactly".

I don't see what the problem is, personally, but the whole "It's dead, move on, nothing to do about it" thing is sort of dismal, don't you think? If people want to propose doing something about it, why not? It isn't hurting anything, and it's only a suggestion, and there are options for what could be done for reviving the players and their characters if they're interested and/or motivated by the idea.

Edit: But, hey, whatever? XD I just had my two-cents, and I'll admit I can be a loud mouth sometimes.

Oh believe me, they have. Right here:

I am just wondering, what if somebody made a reboot of this shop.

This is just one of a number. Read back a few pages. It is suggested/insinuated quite a bit. Maybe you're just doing a TL;DR on it.

To be honest I am amazed that you're so mad about my being polite and telling you not to advertise inthread. I was not addressing you in the post you quoted and hissed back at me about. I simply said "Please don't advertise" to you. My other comment was directed at Ieeko. If you're going to get up on something I was saying to somebody else, that's really not my problem.

I'm really starting to like you, Ieeko. Because you actually took the time to understand what it was I was trying to say. Thanks for that, I really appreciate it.

And no, you didn't " Chase me away." I've been here and watching this place for a really long time, and I probably will always remember it very fondly. A lemon is a lemon, but I'm not going to stop loving fruit because I got something sour in my basket once or twice.

Although I do love the hissing comparison. Snakes rule. Thanks for that.
People, please read back in the thread before you come barging in thinking you have the answer. A reboot has been tried and has failed. Those with experiments have moved on. The people who mostly want it back are the people who didn't have a character and branch-off shops have already been created (see the previous links).

... Why are you even here arguing? I never saw either of you around before. What with the sudden interest?

I was just a reader way the heck back then-mostly when I was at a friends house and bored. >.< The stories were awesome though, I just never bothered to get involved, mostly because I didn't have a computer at the time, and when I finally did get one, I just never remembered to come check stuff. o-o

But yeah. The interest isn't new, it's just old and obscure.

As for why newbies end up landing here, its because of word of mouth, mostly on DA. Lots of artists link to/view the IoDM artists' stuff, and they come here looking for it. Its very popular even outside of Gaia. I think theres even an LJ community for it, if I'm not mistaken.

As for the (see previous links) comments. I'm surprised you didn't get yelled at for advertising.
Why would I? They aren't my shops, nor do I frequent or support them. I don't really have much of a problem with advertising in a dead shop when someone asks if anyone knows similar interests, but what does bug me is that people keep coming back here thinking they have the best and newest solution when it's already been said and done.

You have a community. It's popular off Gaia. Thats fine and dandy, but don't barge in here tooting your horn when no one asked for it. If you want people interested maybe look back in the thread for those who are and PM them, don't use it as a moving billboard.

Anyway, I think the bottom line is that people just don't care anymore. Those with subjects tied to this shop have all agreed to let it die and Sabiki hold the rights to this particular take on the book made, so you're preaching to the dead.
I have been here before? It was a big thread, remember? XD I was a moderate lurker for a long while, and I was a quester. Not like I was die hard post every day / week, but I was around, and if you never saw me, well, you never saw me - but I was here. And I'm not arguing. No interest in arguing, just pointing out.

And I've made my point, that's the end of it, and I'm thoroughly finished, because, hey, I did say when I first posted that I wasn't looking to fight. There isn't much use to carrying on, but, at the same time, there isn't much sense in yelling about advertisement or a reboot if someone wants to try it and anyone were interested. It's a proposal, and if no one's interested, the offer falls back to the depths of Nada - which is what I was saying, and is all I intend to say. Even if the people interested weren't owners, so what? It's still an interest, and there's nothing wrong with looking to them. If something comes out of it, fantastic, if not, oh well - but it's pointless to get defensive, or negative, about whether or not people are posting links or making proposals.

So, point made. And that's all I have to say, and all I'm going to say about it.

Gracious Gekko

But why do you insist on posting? "Farewell" is in the subject of the thread. If you were subscribed to it, surely you noticed how long it had been since the last post, and if you bothered to read the 'Farewell' post, you'd see that it was from like, last July. There's been art posted a couple of times, but for all intents and purposes, the thread itself is dead.

So all you're doing is necroing a thread when you really don't have anything relevant to say.

edit: I remember your name, I think Ieeko. But the blatant thread-necro goes to Serephim anyway.
