• Come hear this tale of a true romance
A love which none had given a chance
    No greater love had anyone
Than a princess had love for a peasant's young son.

They loved each other with all their heart
Their bond could never be torn apart
    Until one day, by happenstance
A stranger brought death to this ill-fated romance.

A prince rode into town one day
He said he came from a land far away
He asked the king for his daughter's hand
But he didn't want her, he just wanted the land.

The king agreed to give her away
But she refused and she pleaded to stay
The foul prince grabbed her with all his might
But the boy would not lose her without a fair fight.

The prince was strong, a man of brute force
He climbed down off of his battle horse
The boy was weak but he was brave
He was willing to die if this girl he could save.

The boy fought hard but alas it would not do
The prince was about to run him through
Rather than see her true love die
The princess gave her life for him in the blink of an eye.

The prince removed his blood-stained steel
His shock and fear, he could not conceal
So off he fled, never to be caught
To pay for the pain and the suffering he brought.

With the princess in his arms, she died
And there the boy stayed for hours as he cried
The pain he felt was too much to fight
So he joined his true love with his own sword that night.

Where they both fell, there now stands a rose
And to this day, that rose still grows
And if the dew drops make it seem like it cried
It probably did, for the lovers whose love never died.
