• You know that guy
    Who everyone calls a nerd
Because he’s always on the computer
    Because all his REAL friends
    Are halfway across the world
And meanwhile he’s building up hate
And telling all his REAL friends
    That someday
    There people will pay
    He’ll deal it for now
    But the hate is building…
    And building…
    And building…
Until one day he’ll get hi revenge
The day his hate, his pain, his suffering
    Explodes?

    You know that girl
    Who doesn’t stand out
    But isn’t invisible
    Who goes to the dances
    And laughs with her friends
    And gets passing grades
The one who secretly thinks everyone’s immature
And the work is all easy
    And the dances are stupid
Because she’s actually way more mature than that
But is afraid to stand out
Be the best she can be
Because she knows how standing out at all
Will make everyone talk about you
    And she knows
That she doesn’t have the self esteem
    To handle it without crying
    And she watched carefully
When the teachers ask about assignments
    Handed in that were perfect
    College level even
    That anyone who claims them
And proves that they are really theirs
    Will get an A
    And move up a grade
    Papers SHE handed in
    But doesn’t take credit for
Perfect papers of her best work
    Handed in as
    Anonymous?

    You know that guy,
    The one who thinks his
    parts aren’t big enough
And that he isn’t cool enough
And so he thinks no one will like him
And though he loves that one girl
    Really loves that one girl
    Not just a crush
    But true love
He doesn’t think she will like him
And he wants her to be happy
So he just slinks into the shadows of the school
    Distracting his mental pain
    By inducing physical pain
But then it hurts too much
And he wishes he could just
    Die?

    You know that girl,
Who sits three rows behind you
And like, talks like this like with like every like other word like being LIKE
The one everyone thinks she’s a chatterbox
And calls her names like b---- or s--- or anything they can think of
    And she’ll take it
Because she doesn’t get enough attention at home
So she’ll take any love she can get
    Any attention at all
Because otherwise she feels like she’s not there
    Like she doesn’t even
    Exist?

    You know that guy
The one who everyone talks about
    Because he’s bi
    And really, he’s gay
    Just outright
    But he has feelings too
And he feels betrayed by the world
    That just because he’s different
Everyone is going to hate him
    All his life
    And no one talks about
He’s the best played on the basketball team
Or how his little sister thinks he’s the best because he
Is always willing to lend a hand
Or how he goes to church every day
    And has decent grades
All they talk about is how he is wrong
And how sick minded he must be
Even if they don’t know him
Because they don’t have to know him
    Because he’s just another
    Gay?

    You know that girl,
    Of course you don’t
    But you do
She’s the one who sits alone in the cafeteria
Who while the other kids are at the playground
    Is drawing in the shade
And no one asks her about her day
Or if she wants to come over and play
    Because they never notice her
    And she never reaches out
    She’s too shy
    But inside her heart breaks
    Because she’s very lonely
And she wishes that maybe one day
Someone would just come over there and sit by her and say
    “Hey, you draw good.”
She woke up crying one night
    Because she dreamt that happened
    But then she woke up
    And hid her tears
Because even though she wanted to cry
She would never even try to build up courage
    To talk to someone else
    Because what she wanted most
Was for someone else to notice her
    Sitting there
    Alone?

    You know that guy
    Who’s parents are divorced
    and just moved in
for the third time this year
    from another state
    you know him
he’s the one who’s shoes are all ratty
    and all the boys tease
    because he can’t talk right
    and his skin is darker
    both because he’s Mexican
the one who gets all the racist jokes at school
and is teased because his clothes are sometimes messy
because his divorced parents don’t make enough money
and so he has to try and make money
    in any way he can
    even when it means
    getting beat up
    doing drug deals
and working so much he doesn’t even
have time to finish all his homework
And he gets two hours of sleep a day
    If he’s lucky
And he really isn’t a bad person
Though he doesn’t go to church
so everyone thinks he’s all bad
    but really
    he’s just searching
    praying every day
    because he wants to know
because he’s just so confused and doesn’t
    understand?

    You know that girl,
The one who’s on time every day
The one half the school hates
    Because she gets all As
The one who feels like she’s pressured
    To do her best,
Because her expectations are too high
    And wants to cry
Because no matter how good she is
Everyone always find something to tease her about
    But she can’t cry
Because then she knows they’ll all say
    She’s a wimp, she’s a crybaby,
    So she just
    Smiles?
