I have my up and downs.
My smiles. My frowns.
I have hope, I have despair.
I am cruel, yet I am fair.
I am different, but the same.
I accuse, and I'm to blame.
I tell the truth and I lie.
I am dead, but I'm alive.
Yes I can, and I cannot.
I've been unleashed, I've been caught.
I take not the smallest crumb.
Yet to greed, I have succumb.
I'm like you, but I am me.
I am chained and I am free.
My book is open, sometimes closed.
I am a thorn, I am a rose.
I can walk and I can run.
I have lost and I have won.
I remember. I forget.
I am sweet and I'm a threat.
I can trust and I suspect.
I can cure and I infect.
I am big, yet I am small.
I can fly, sometimes I fall.
I'm ordinary, yet unique.
I am strong, but I am weak.
I do leave, but I return.
I can heal, but I burn.
I am clean, yet covered in grime.
Look at me, I'm in my prime.
- Title: I Am...
- Artist: sclar1
- Description: This poem was written with the intention of it depicting the eternal struggle within oneself during the challenging time of adolescence. The feelings of trying to find ourselves but sometimes not being able to see exactly where we fit into the puzzle. I was aiming for the kind of two-edged sword in each of us. Feedback would be greatly appreciated!
