• It drives me crazy as I am subtly redirected,
to a time and place where life could have been rejected.
I was lucky to have survived unharmed,
but when my sister woke up...

She became alarmed in her chaotic mind,
so I had to do something to make her unwind.
I didn't know what to do, being in my position.
I noticed there was a new situation...

"The car might explode!" I said to give warning.
After I distanced myself and my sister...

the fuel stopped burning before the worst.
We headed back but thank god the rescue squad made it there first.
If the police were there first it could have been trouble,
because my sister had an empty bottle of beer somewhere in the rubble.

We were taken to the hospital and once we were okay
the county sheriff came and said to my sister what i hoped he didn't really say.
They found the bottle, though my sister wasn't drinking.
She said, "It was a friend's from another day!" and as she said it her voice started shrinking.

The officer knew she wasn't lying because she was hesitant,
and when you try to remember something you look in a certain direction during that instant.
we got home from the hospital and I went to my room.
I couldn't sleep that night because I was rattled from almost certain doom.
