• The beat of my heart, thumping harder now,
As your words sink in, push me to the ground
The beating of the darkness as I try to hide,
Matching the beating of my feat as I thunder by
The beating of my lungs, struggling to keep my body alive
Thumping to the beating of the music that makes the city thrive
The background of my beating world melds with the darkness close behind
And I’m afraid of turning around, afraid of what I’ll find
The beating, growing faster now, is too much for my heart,
And as I hear it falter, my world starts to tear apart
Where the tears begin to appear, the color begins to drain,
And I know the darkness is taking over, as it begins to gain.
All of sudden, I feel my will dissolve, beating as it slips away
As your face beats its way into my mind, when you said you didn’t want to stay.
As the first and final tear slides down my cheek i no longer feel depressed,
And I turn and face the black pulsing mass, with a carelessness you forced me to possess.

And as I slip into the pulsing darkness with graceful ease,
My fading consciousness notices the cold and painful beating cease
