Human history is war
dotted with periods of peace.
Humans have three drives:
appetite for energy, sex for pleasure,
Death.
Death: the execution of others and oneself.
War: the perfect solution.
Sports: the “peaceful” solution.
Competitive sports are Battles.
Teams are Armies.
Players are Soldiers.
Goals are Cities, Forts, and Castles.
Goalies are Defenders.
Helmets are Battle Helms.
Pads are Suits of Armor
Sticks, Rackets, Paddles, Bats, and Gloves are Swords, Spears, Clubs, Shields, and Guns.
Balls are Bullets and Cannonballs.
Fields and Courts are Battlefields.
Competition satisfies external Thanatos.
Noncompetitive sports are Suicide.
Golf is the Approaching death.
Throwing is the Letting Go of life.
Jumping is the Moving from life to death.
Racing is the “One-Wayness” of death.
Metaphorical suicide satisfies internal Thanatos.
Thanatos: the death drive.
Death: the end.
Death: the middle.
Death: the beginning.
Life: the beginning.
Life: the middle.
Life: the end.
Life and Death alternate
in a [never-ending] cycle
Reincarnation does exist.
Afterlife is reincarnation
for it is a second life;
Being reborn is reincarnation
for it is a second life.
Thanatos: the death drive.
Thanatos: the drive for a new beginning.

- Title: Thanatos: The Death Drive
- Artist: Llywelyn Fawr
- Description: This is a poem about what psychologists call Thanatos named after the Greek god of death (see reference picture). The death drive was first theorized by Sigmund Freud as the reason why humans do such reckless things that clearly could spell their own death. Please, tear it apart as much as you want. Not literally of course.
